I also don't smoke (regular tobacco) but I would also not do that when children are around even though that is legal. There is a huge stigma about smoking that alcohol doesn't have, and to smoke in front of your kids will result in them harrassing you.

What about second-hand smoke?

When you smoke pot, the smoke is released in the air. It gets in your hair, on your clothes, your bed sheets, etc. Do you really think that your kids or your neighbors can't smell you smoking pot?

You can enjoy a glass of wine, without second-hand fumes affecting anyone else but you.

Again, pot-smoking is not the same as enjoying a glass of wine.

For a kid, it's really upsetting to see your parents high -- whether wasted on booze or high on pot.

Uh, you must be pretty old. “see things”? Really? The different strains these days are for a variety of different purposes. Obviously, you don’t know how much this billion dollar industry has grown with legal recreational in several states.

I've smoked a lot of pot... It's never made me 'see things' or have an out of body experience. Mostly, I watch dumb movies and eat way too much doritos and ice cream.

Edibles, however, are the devil, and the two times I've tried them, I ended up having an existential crisis in my shower. So I'll stick with dumb movies and ice cream.

OP here, I dont smoke or drink in front of my kids. That is the choice by DH and I have made. My kids have commented on others in social settings that other people seem to drink too much. We talk to them about drinking alcohol responsible.We try to be open because the reality is that our kids will be exposed to alcohol and drugs at some point.

Huh. You're ridiculous. Marijuana and alcohol are both substances. Asking why person would do one and not the other in front of their children is a completely reasonable question. I'm not sure why I clicked on this thread as I don't touch pot and don't think highly of people who do, but each to its own. However, it does say much if someone thinks their marriage's happiness is dependent on pot.
