If you read the comments in the article they link to the Youcaring site for the family. On that site is a comment saying the person arrested is an intimate friend of the victim’s baby mama.

I saw the same comment. But it also looks like the mom recently won the custody battle she was fighting with the victim's family, which makes me think there's no evidence she was involved in his murder, otherwise she wouldn't have gotten the kid back.

Doubtful. The police just made the arrest this weekend and have been gathering evidence for months. They aren’t going to show their hand in a custody case to jeopardize a murder case.

The custody action was filed in late June and mom got the kid back two weeks ago. I suspect what happened is that when the victim's family found out his was murdered by an "intimate friend" of mom's, they filed for custody believing she might have been involved in the murder. She got the kid back after authorities confirmed they had no reason to believe that was the case. The delay until he was actually arrested may have been because of the need to file an extradition request, locate him, etc.

That's upsetting bc he probably won't remember the father. Based on court records, looks like the kid thought the other man was his dad for the first 2 years (was named something totally different) and then spent the last two years with his real father and a new name.
