It's not our fault people have voted in buffoons who don't how to work together. Why should our pay be docked??? We have bills and families just like everyone else. If your employer decided to stop paying you on a whim, you'd throw a darn fit, yet you expect others to just suck it up.

Self employed here, and I eat what I kill. That said, I'd never trade my interesting work and high earnings to become a Fed. I cover several Gs-13s salaries with my Fed taxes, but consider it an act of charity for the limited.

We appreciate it pp.

I've thought about becoming a contractor, to do the same job and make more money and better benefits, like our contractors. Since most people seem to hate feds, it would be a win win.

The longer it stays shit down, the worse trump looks, so let's hope they can keep it closed for six months

Thanks but some of us would like to work and get paid.

You'll get paid when it's over. So relax, enjoy the time off, and take one for the team in the meantime.

There's bigger fish to fry right now -like the huge fat one in the Whitehouse.

Go take a vacation. Go somewhere fun with your family. Enjoy it. This is bigger than you.

Do people like you think federal workers don't pay taxes? Federal workers are taxpayers too. It is odd when folks go on about their tax dollars like they are the only ones paying taxes. As a salaried employee, when my office is closed for reasons beyond my control, I get paid. I view Congress not passing the budget as out of the control of federal employees. Congress should be responsive to all tax payers and pass a budget. The new year started October 1st. I would be fired missing deadlines like them.

Isn’t it interesting how anons on the internet always pay sooo much in taxes and make sooo much money? It’s such a coincidence!

Government shutdowns hurt a lot of people and should be avoided. The only reason we had the last one is that Cruz needed a way to get people to learn his name and he calculated that by the time the presidential campaign cycle started, the sharper edges of anger toward him would have dulled. Plus he’s not likable so he’s able to get famous by being a complete jack hole and it doesn’t hurt his brand that much. Unless we have another opportunist seeing to make a name off the backs of... wait. Well. We are screwed.

Yes. Federal workers pay taxes, too. I guess we are self employed based on the PP's post above.

Why are people more upset about how fed employees might or might not get backpay than how Congress's has not passed a budget? This is what's wrong with out country. No one holds congress accountable.

We have enough stashed away that we could handle a shut down of couple of months, plus I'm private sector so I'd still be getting paid. But dual-income feds with an area-typical mortgage and not enough padding could really start hurting quickly.

Then maybe they shouldn't live pay check to pay check.
Signed,
One-half of a dual-income fed

You don't sound bright, to say the least. It's unfortunate that our tax dollars go towards supporting cushy jobs for half-wits like you.

Bless your heart

Sorry to have struck a nerve.

Not everyone is a GS-15. Hard to live on a GS-7 pay, much less have a lot in savings.

Sorry you aren't more successful. Should have studied a STEM field rather than sociology

How's that minimum wage job of yours going?

So why are you on this thread then? If the shutdown doesn't affect and you're rooting for a shutdown, great. Let the poor federal workers debate their bills, salaries, and whatever else.

Yep. I'm the PP you're responding to and while I'd rather work and be guaranteed a salary (which we aren't right now), whatever -- I am out of here if we shut down. Was already looking at flights to Miami and the Caribbean. Only been with the gov't for 1.5 yrs so I honestly don't get why people don't plan for these shut downs periodically (FYI -- I mean my attorney peers; I have all the sympathy of GS 7s who are paycheck to paycheck bc their pay is so low that it's hard to save.)

I’m not booking any flights anywhere because I have no idea if there will be a shutdown, how long it will be, and if I’ll get backpay. During the 2013 shutdown, I had a ton of leave and could afford to take an extra day or two of leave if I was out of town when there was a resolution. I have very little leave now (used a lot of it for charity work in a refugee crisis) and now have to save for upcoming maternity leave. So if there is a shutdown, I’ll be at home waiting for a resolution.

Ok enjoy. Those of us not pregnant and not spending our time on refugee things have such flexibilities of going away for a vacation and then when you get word that we're reopening -- you fly back. If you can't get a flight that exact day, you take a day or 2 off.

I’m not a GS-7, but my office would be lost without our admin staff. You sound like an ass everyone would be better off without.
