MD kids lying to get into DC Schools

In general, I think that's true, however on the high end DC residents are justifiably happy with their schools. It may be that most of the DC residents that are conveniently close enough to the very best MoCo schools are either A) in the best DC schools and therefore not interested or B) wealthy enough for private schools and therefore not interested.

Wow, your ability to rationalize away any argument that contradicts your opinion continues to amaze me.

And people in SE, SW and NE DC don't have cars?

Some DC residents are willing to pay for MD schools:

So my guess is that this is the tip of the iceberg, and that people who are using them without paying aren't advertising it like this mom.

Oh yeah, let's drive an hour in near rush hour traffic all the way across town and into montgomery county to drop the children at school. once this feat has been completed, get back in the car and drive back into the city to go to work. yeah right. seems so logical, people in n.e., s.e., and s.w. are doing this all the time.

I am the OP. I left for a few days and came back to lots of responses. I appreciate the honesty that many have shown that they know of some non-DC families who are "stealing" slots. It is a huge issue - and specifically with the full day Pre-K3 and Pre-K slots - which is free to DC residents contrary to what is offered in the "better than" MD and VA systems.

I still didnt see the number to report. I will report those that I know.

FWIW...Md'ers and VA'ers cannot pay DC tuition until there is no waiting list of DC people. For the popular schools, that NEVER happens...except for the example given of a brand newly opened charter. Thanks all...this was interesting reading.

Do you realize how ridiculous this point looks? Lots of DC is close to PG or even Montgomery County. And who says they all work in DC anyway? Your arguments are getting so tenuous that I'm out of here.

Bye!! And who would want to go to PG County schools, and there are some schools in downcounty MC that a parent would avoid as well. The only schools in Maryland that a DC Parent would consider lying to get their child into would most likely be west Montgomery County. Most ES schools in upper northwest are as good, if not better than the beforementioned, so obviously the staement is not ridiculous. And no, not all DC residents work and play in DC, but the overwhelming majority do. As do I must say, many, many residents of PG, MC and AA county Maryland

There is a confidential hotline you may call to report non-DC residents attending DCPS. It's 202 442-5215. You should have the family's name, DC address and phone number they are using.

Much of NE DC is within a few minutes of Takoma Park, Silver Spring and Montgomery County schools.

Ummm, yeah... "Down-county" schools.

Nice try, but the word is out that there are two classes (red and green? according to the MCPS Superintendent) of MCPS schools. It's not like the red schools are worth crossing the DC lines for.

This thread is kafkaesque. DC schools are, without exception, better than Montgomery County schools? And we thought DCUM provided useful information!

It looks like the point is that A) it depends on the DC school and B) it depends on the MC school.

You know - "it depends."

If you've looked at the testing data then you KNOW that it's NOT universally true that MCPS is automatically better than DCPS. Sorry to disappoint you and your realtor.

Thanks for posting this - hopefully some of the posters who know of families cheating the system will report these families. However, I think the information you posted that people need to report is a ridiculous request. How would you know the fake address that someone is using?

Most schools have a directory with addresses and phone numbers.
