The suggestion that privates only accept residents isn't practical. DC residents attend schools like Holton Arms and Bullis and Potomac. Sidwell has a campus in Bethesda, another in DC. |
If they are paying tuition there will be a record of somewhere within DCPS. There won't be an embarassing confrontation like you imagine. Don't know why you seem to think that whistleblowing in this context would lead to unecssary embarassment. ![]() |
If Mrs. Smith wrote a check - she will never be called b/c the investigation would stop before asking her for evidence of payment. This is not going to a blind outside investigation. Steps would occur before Mrs Smith is contacted. |
You know what, if you people are not going to turn in the names, why the heck are you biatching. I am really peed off. As a DC parent who has been placed on four waitlist without any acceptance for my child, this really stinks. I do pay taxes in the District. I have appeared repeatedly to jury duty. I do sit in that ridiculous long line to get my car reinspected. And yes quite frankly I am pissed because my child did not get a slot. And now am on this board and people are saying "I personally know three, four, ten, put any number you want in, of people scamming the system, but I am not about to turn anyone in". My God, do you people hear yourselves. By scamming the system, these families are stealing $10,000 per child from a DC resident child. Its frightening. It's analougous to someone saying, "OH, I know she steals a car once a month. And, yes I know that everytime she steals a car my insurance premium increases. However, I am not going to report her because I am not a rat. I will continue to pay for her thievery. It stinks. I am mad and I cant be mad at the people who live in VA or MD. One must be mad at the people who live in DC and allow this nonsense to persist because they dont have any backbone to do the right thing. Please call and report these thieves. Dont bother mentioning my spelling or grammar, I dont care to proofread and make corrections. These post is from a stream of consciousness. |
Clap clap clap |
WHAT!! Wasting taxpayers money for conducting an investigation of potential fraud. You must not be a DC resident and you have illegally placed your child in one of the high performing DC public or charter schools. You are now concerned that someone might report you for stealing $10,000 per year from a DC child's rightful education. Turn her in if you know who she is. |
Not disagreeing, pp, I just wanted to let you know that you can now make an appointment on line and zip through inspection. My last inspection took, like, 13 minutes total. Truly amazing! |
Would you be pissed off if the kid's family owned a DC property that they rented out - and those renters were single therefore not needing a spot? The family is still paying DC taxes and also paying taxed in another state where they are not using the school system. |
your hypothetical is ridiculous. It does not matter who rents out the property - what would happen if the renter changed and needed a spot in school - would the owner than have to take the kid out. The reason there are rules is to not go through crazy hypotheticals. Either the child is a legal DC resident OR not (note I am not talking about legal in immigration terms). |
That and about $28K/yr. |
YES. Yes, I would be totally pissed off. You are paying property taxes in DC. Yeah, well so what. The DC property is an investment property and not your primary legal residence. And since it is not your primary legal residence you are not paying the requisite big dinger, income tax, and other DC required fees. Oh and by the way, those taxes you reference on the DC property is written off as a deduction on their C return, or whatever return it is called. As to the renter not having children, so bloody what. I lived in DC for years before DH and I decided to have children and we paid taxes. So what are you saying? I dont get what you are trying to get at on this question. It does not compute. Are you implying that if you don't have children you should not have to pay taxes because the taxes help to fund the schools. I still say that people who are not residents of tthe District and use DCPS schools are STEALING from the children who reside in the city. DC residents have been trying for decades to get their schools together, while people in VA and MD openly maligned DCPS. Now that the schools, mainly charters, are performing above average or better, the same people who ran from DCPS are rushing to steal and take advantage of DC residents. And we have people who live in DC who are anemic in their thinking because they do not mind if someone is stealing from them, their children and all the other children in the city. Yes, I am still pissed. And if I knew of someone who was sending their child to DCPS or Charter but resided in another jurisdiction, I would definitely report them. Why? Because it is wrong, wrong, wrong. |
Yeah, right. DC's central offices have all of this information stored on computers where they can access it with a flick of a finger. ![]() We've been involved with a DC charter, and I'd be surprised if the school itself had the information. I speak as somebody from Maryland who paid the $10K last year. We kept asking for a bill, we never got it. We finally sent in a huge payment of somewhat over the $10 K amount, just to be safe. Do you actually live in DC-land, or on some other planet? |
just curious--is it within the rules to live in DC but then also rent an apartment in the school district that you want to be in(and not the district where your home is located)? is this allowed? or is that breaking the rules? |
You are a DC resident who is paying DC taxes. Unfortunately you have to pay both a mortgage and rent to obtain a decent education for your child. It is not breaking the law. It is those who take and take and take from the city, but never give anything in return. I bet the same parents who sneak, connive an steal from the DC children to place their children in DC schools are the same parents who talk poorly about the crappy DC streets and services. These parents are also the same parents who are vehemently opposed to commuter taxes. |
You know this? Really? |
