MD kids lying to get into DC Schools

Don't the schools have directories with students' addresses and phone numbers?

It looks like the point is that A) it depends on the DC school and B) it depends on the MC school.

You know - "it depends."

If you've looked at the testing data then you KNOW that it's NOT universally true that MCPS is automatically better than DCPS. Sorry to disappoint you and your realtor.

Yes, but apparently she's already ruled out DC kids crossing into Bethesda or Potomac schools because it's "too far" (although apparently MD families are making the trip in the opposite direction, per her other posts). I'm just confused, thus the word "kafkaesque". Lots of dissonance versus what we know about the relative merits of DC vs. MD schools, and what we've heard about people sneaking across borders in both directions....

Not really. Everyone knows the crossing over is from Ward 9 to DC. Who HASN'T heard of these stories, at least second hand? Whereas if anyone knew of any crossover stories to MoCo surely the WaPo would have paid the story the least little mind... (Well, maybe "back in the day". It really is a pretty lousy rag now.)

Has the WaPo reported in MD crossing into DC? If so, I missed it. Maybe it's just that DC kids crossing into MD isn't really newsworthy, because it's so obvious.

"Everybody knows": And if you've heard the MD-to-DC crossovers, it's because you live in DC. If you lived in MD, you'd have heard about the other direction.

This thread is pointless. She wants to be a victim, to feel that those "evil MD people" are destroying her life. Why argue if she's determined? Just let her feel like a victim.

To the OP: To answer your question,

Is there a better way to prevent this theft from the District? Should I report them or is it just a reality that DC residents also steal from MD school resources as well?

Yes. please report these people. Is there a better way to prevent theft from the district? I think making the schools aware of the magnitude of the problem so that they can put in the appropriate checks to ensure this does not happen is an answer.

I personally do not know anyone who is stealing a spot - but like you I am trying for one of those highly desired spots for my child for next year. Thank you for starting this discussion. Hopefully it has moved a few people to take some action.
