SATC: what is it that Big found hard to handle about Carrie?

I thought it seemed really stupid. A telegram? REally? Was it 1936? She might have been a good wife, but that didn't mean she deserved a mulit-million dollar piece of property that had been in his family for years.

I just think Trey was a really good guy, and he knew how terrible his mother was. He loved charlotte, he knew he had failed her, and he wanted to make it up to her. Maybe he didn't want his mother to have the house and wanted charlotte to be able to have her future family there.

+1 - in the episode where she was negotiating her prenup I think she was only going to get $1 million and that's if she were married for a certain number of years. And part of the reason Trey wanted to take a break from TTC was because of how crazy Charlotte was acting, not because he just changed his mind. No way she earned that apartment after a marriage that didn't even last a full season.

Yeah. Trey wanted a break because IVF is frustrating and hard. Char was acting like a brat especially considering he was a really good husband in all areas (once bedroom issues were fixed).

Yep. She was much more forgiving of Harry even though he wasn't nearly as nice to her as Trey was. Trey was a genuinely good man who tried to do right by her to the best of his ability. He went through painful therapy sessions to fix his impotence issues, forgave her infidelity, and when she wanted to quit, still tried to end the marriage on the best of terms.

Harry forced himself on her, broke up with her because she wanted some attention and expected her to change her faith to be with him!

I think Charlotte REALLY did not do right by Trey. Making a baby is BOTH people's decision, just temporarily exhausted by the pressure. I think Charlotte went in expecting fairy-tales and was upset by the smallest slights.By the time Harry came around, she was desperate and did everything to have him. Trey was a better man IMO. #teamtrey

Trey was nice but wasn't very supportive during infertility. I think Harry worked because he was very blunt. Charlotte needed someone a bit more assertive. Trey was too passive.

I agree with this completely. And I don't doubt that piece of real estate was just one of many. It just happened to be the one Trey lived in. I don't think he missed it, and am willing to bet he found an even better apartment.

On the subject of characters-- Did anyone think Samantha and Charlotte were more or less one dimensional, with Carrie and Miranda being more multidimensional? Of course, Carrie was the central character and narrator, so we heard her insights more.

Right. Also I think his extreme generosity speaks to his patrician manners. When you grow up in the kind of abundance someone like him is bound to be, fighting over one of many real estate properties around the world with a wife with whom you had a sad end to a marriage, seems extremely petty and gauche. He couldn't fulfill his wife's basic needs, the least he could do was end it by respecting her and keeping her dignity intact. It would be extremely tacky for him to ask her to leave his apartment.It was't a monetary thing, it was extremely classy.

Carrie certainly wasn't. In fact, I'd argue she's the one character who didn't develop any emotional maturity or growth during the run of the show. The others all did. She remained the same vapid, shallow, selfish person she was all along.

Sure. Of all the women Char consistently dated blue blooded super wealthy guys. Even for casual sex she wouldn't consider anyone who wasn't a lawyer or an investment banker and she was the most obviously classist.

I still really found her storyline realistic and very endearing. She, like a lot of us out there, had this large checklist of her perfect man and found out that what really makes her happy was something very different. Her short marriage to Trey and its dissolution was very interesting. I think the fact that Char found the rigid rules and customs of the McDougal clan stifling and intrusive was indicative of her growth from back when we first meet her in Season 1. Maybe season 1 char wouldve loved the McDougals and all their strange world. But by the time she finally marries her perfect on paper dream man...she had been single and independent for a long time and actually needed a marriage where she had more autonomy. Harry made her so happy because he was on board with whatever she wanted, no questions asked. She had the upper hand in that marriage.
