I think they did try to add layers to both Charlotte and Samantha by having them face challenges unique to their particular dispositions. Charlotte is a Park Ave. Princess who wanted to marry Prince Charming. Well...she did and found out all that glitters is not gold. When she ended up with the "beast" that is Harry to her "beauty," she demonstrated a lot of growth and agency.

Same thing with Sam and the Smith and cancer story line. We also sensed that Sam was sexually promiscuous because of her deep sense of insecurity. She thought no man could possibly want her for anything other than her body. I don't necessarily think Carrie and Miranda were more developed than the other two.[/quote]

Carrie certainly wasn't.  In fact, I'd argue she's the one character who didn't develop any emotional maturity or growth during the run of the show.  The others all did.  She remained the same vapid, shallow, selfish person she was all along.[/quote]
