I don't know how I got on their email list but I keep getting tryout emails from NOVAYC. Apparently they are holding tryouts today at South Run Rec Center.

This cracks me up. I've never heard of anyone doing this, but I actually love the impulse to squeeze in more soccer for your kid. You sound like the sort of parent who is ready to step up and help organize pickup games in the local parks.

LOL it was just a thought. My kid cant get enough and figured it would just be fun for him. I am not taking it up as serious competition and no I am not the crazy parent on the sideline screaming my head. Just throwing it out there to get some feedback.

I could see it annoying some fellow parents. If the family is really focused on their child making a team, they might not appreciate the potential distraction of a player who is not there to be evaluated. As a coach, I think I'd find it endearing. You can't teach that kind of love for the game.

11:48 - we did travel tryouts even though we figured we had no shot at it. My thought was that it was good for my kid to get tryout experience, and hell, at the very least, it was soccer playing time. We haven't had enough of that this rainy spring, with games and practices getting canceled.

(we did end up getting a spot due to low numbers of girls trying out, and we took it. Eek.)

You should keep an eye out for the pickup soccer games Arlington puts on at Gunston over the summer. Anyone can come out, and they're free.

Is PWSI any good at development at U9/10 ? Are they focused on winning at those ages ? Their website is lacking in details.

Anyone received an email inviting your 05 player to a pre-tryout "kickaround" so the DA director can see them?

We did receive this from another club, also saying not to mention it to other interested 05s.

Anyone been thru the u9/u10 girls program at CYA? What are your thoughts on their development of your child?

It seems Hugo runs the program but he's not the coach for the 3 teams.

DC got an offer but we wanted to try another tryout before making a decision. Are clubs good about letting you postpone your decision?

I can't imagine anyone is seriously considering that

I keep getting emails from them, too. Curious why you say that. I'm not familiar with them. Is that what you mean?

My son played in the U8 academy. Their focus was definitely on player development and their motto is on player development first which to me is the most important at that age.

See if this provide you more info on their program - https://bsbproduction.s3.amazonaws.com/portals/5977/docs/pwsi_pdi_implementation_townhall%20-feb2016-2.pdf

thanks that is helpful. I see they are planning on training three days a week which is good. Only down side to that would be the commute, they are not near us.

We are in Lorton about 12 miles from the field but with rush hour takes us about 40mins. Love the club but commute not so much.

I would say no different from other top clubs. With the age shake I suspect there will be more slots to fill at those age levels. Also assume the kids in their current academy have a leg up of sorts.

On a side note we attended the SCAA tryouts. There was about 8 kids trying out for u9. 10 for u10 and 6 for U11.
I am sure most kids will make it. Will you see this as an opportunity to get more 1:1 training and more playing time? Or do you think the
Club is too young?

I am sucking it up a bit for better training and smarter coaches next year. It might add 10-15 minutes to our practice commute (but just 1-way). Against traffic on way home.

I have been flushing $ down the toilet for 2 years and won't do it for two kids.
