| I thought SCAA fees were pretty high considering all the uncertainty surrounding the club. |
Agreed. And with the rebranding you would have to pay for new uniforms |
| What is the lure to SCAA then when there are many other established clubs near by? |
|
I didn't even think about the new uniforms.
I have no idea why you would join SCAA over other local clubs. The travel program is more expensive than BRYC, which we have seen runs a great program. |
Really I only considered it because its 2mins from my house while BRYC is 20 or so minutes. But agree its a no brainer...BRYC was the way to go for us. |
You also have LMVSC, SYC, and BAC
|
True but the schedule didnt line up to go to all of the tryouts or else I would of.

Just saw that BRYC is still holding tryouts

For anyone still looking or trying to choose a team, FPYC is holding two more days of Tryouts this week for 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, and 2001. FPYC is a small club with lower fees than most clubs and a high level of training.

| Any reason why BRYC would still be holding tryouts for the U9 and U10 boys? I would think there are plenty of kids in that area interested in playing. |
I am wondering if the whole birth year change has anything to do with this. I am guessing that maybe some parents don't feel their kid is ready yet especially if they were born in late 2008. I wasn't expecting my kid to play travel this fall (Aug 2008 birthday) but He has been playing a lot of soccer the past year and he and I feel he can compete. But maybe some weren't ready for this sudden change. |
From what I could tell a bunch of players moved to U10 so U9 needed a few more players. |
That's gonna be a painful season if you are playing up a bunch of kids to U10 already. |

11:15 - we saw a lot of that in the U9 tryouts - the late 2008 birthdays went to kindergarten a full year later than the earlier 2008 birthdays, so they have had two fewer seasons of rec league soccer. My kid is a good soccer player compared to many of the kids she plays against (and with), but she looked outplayed at travel tryouts against kids who'd played two more seasons but were technically the same age.
We didn't know any other 1st grade girls who tried out for travel, and only one of the 1st grade boys we know who tried out made it. I think a lot of folks also just aren't ready for the travel commitment when their kid is 7 and in 1st grade. That seems so early to specialize. Did other teams have a low number of girls trying out? Arlington had an unusually low number of girls at both travel and ADP tryouts for the U9 group. |
Our club also had a very low number of U9 girls trying out (and we also have a rec program in house). We went from four teams to two based on who came in and their skill level - and not everyone was given an offer as not everyone was ready to play. One of the coaches was chalking it up to the birth year change - you have to be very plugged in to soccer in general at U7 to make that jump to U9 and understand that it's a slight age shift as opposed to your daughter playing up. We had maybe two that were coming from U7, and the rest are from the U8 group. That said, we saw a similar thing on the boys side, there's one less team than they anticipated having. |
