Single and buying a home. Tacky to register for a housewarming party?

Resurrecting this old thread to vent - my friend just sent out invitations for a housewarming party (they bought the house over a year ago). On the invitation it states "food will be provided by, byob" and lists where they are registered. The registry literally has hundreds of items, some up to $700 (furniture) They also got married a year ago and did a registry for that, so I'm not quite sure why they need more household items...so now I have to bring my own drinks and provide an expensive gift from the registry? No.
