Do you take everything so lightly? I'm not saying that everyone needs to be worried or scared, but don't pretend that retaliation is somewhere outside of the realm of possibility. |
So now we know what Jack Bauer has been up to since the series finale! |
Retaliation people please. Do you really think this makes them want to kill us more than they did. They have wanted to kill us the whole time. Obama gets credit for giving an order that the base didn't want him to do. He will get reelected |
What? Are you suggesting that Obama's base didn't want to see Bin Laden killed? That's crazy. |
Could there be possible retaliatory attacks? Of course, though I doubt they could be carried out on US soil. But what would you rather have, Al Queda with Osama or Al Queda without Osama? Al Queda has vowed throughout the years to attempt to carry out more acts of terrorism. The threat has always been there. It might be more heightened initially but we have been calling for the capture of Bin Laden since 9/11. Now we have it we complain? Can't help but wonder if some of the negative responses here would have been more tempered had this taken place under the Bush administration. Obama has always mentioned and paid respect to our military forces and I have no doubt that he will do the same in the coming days regarding this operation. I can't comment on whether or not it is appropriate to be cheering in the streets of America, but I will never forget the overwhelming feeling of fear and sorrow on 9/11 and for a very long time thereafter. Today I feel an overwhelming sense of relief and I believe that some justice has been done and I thank the troops and my president for that. |
Nope, what I'm saying is that they are reporting that this particular operation was not agreed upon. The base thought it was too risky, at least that's what they were reporting on Cnn |
By base, do you mean the military base? I hope so, because I'm . . . uncomfortable with the notion that Obama's "base" (whatever that means these days) was consulted on this operation. |
yep, he was probably innocent. there is no war going on. ![]() |
bin Laden is going to be a martyr no matter what, whether or not folks are celebrating around the country.
@22:56, really? I mean, maybe they didn't see the need to unearth it in 2004 (Bush was on the way to winning anyway), but couldn't they have had bin Laden's death announced in late September 2008? I mean McCain should be hopping mad right about now using your logic. It all depends on how much operational control bin Laden still had (if he was holed up in Terrorist Hall and receiving numerous visitors, then perhaps quite a bit, albeit on a time-delay) and what sort of succession plan he had in place (and to what extent bin Laden's lieutenants will actually honor his wishes). If we can fracture Islamic radicalism the way the KKK is now fractured, it's all to the good, IMO. If this fractures Islamic radicalism in the way the KKK and white supremacist groups are fractured, score one for Bush/Obama. @00:04, I hope someone thought to hold a newspaper next to Osama's body. I believe that al-Qa'eda was behind 9/11, that Obama was born in the USA, that Saddam was captured in the timeframe Bush stated, and that Obama was killed in the timeframe Obama stated. So I guess that just makes me a sheeple. @1:52, Osama was given a chance to surrender and refused. Classic case of resisting arrest/suicide by cop. @2:05, if they could have unleashed hell wouldn't they have already done so? @jsteele, if you read a few of the posts, they're complaining that we did kill him. It's not unreasonable to assume that a sizeable percentage of liberals truly are, at their heart, uncomfortable with the manner in which bin Laden died. |
I sincerely doubt liberals are uncomfortable with the manner in which bin Laden died.
Did people expect bin Laden would go down without a fight? Let's try to remember that his has been American enemy #1 for a LONG time. He deserved to die (and yes, I'm a liberal). I think we are just hearing a lot of sour grapes from conservatives who want to minimize what this means to the American psyche b/c - let's face it - Obama did something that Bush *should* have done and didn't. So instead, it is preferable for the conservative base to (1) blame Clinton (stupid) or (2) scream about how scared they are that AQ will retaliate. |
05/02/2011 00:40 Subject: bin laden is dead
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have they indicated whether it was a military or CIA operation? NY Times said that it was both. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/02/world/asia/osama-bin-laden-is-killed.html?hp |
This is comparable (in terms of the national psyche) to if Operation Eagle Claw (Carter's attempt to rescue the Iranian embassy hostages) had succeeded. |
I'd like to add that it was due to interrogations of captured terrorists that we obtained the name of the courier, then took 4 years to track him down.
Obama loves the cleaner drone execution, Bush liked to take the terrorists alive to get info. I'm ok with either approach now that the head of the snake has finally been cut off .... |
\ As we should be. The man killed three thousand innocent people, many of whom were burned alive or had to jump from the World Trade Center. Old Testament justice is most appropriate here. |
It is absolutely unreasonable to assume that a sizable percentage of liberals are uncomfortable with the manner in which bin Laden died. That's exactly like saying that there is a sizable percentage of conservatives who are unhappy that UBL was killed because Obama will get credit. Sure, there are examples of both, but they hardly constitute sizable percentages and, in the case of the liberals, they don't constitute Obama's base. Obama's base is not the far left. The far left gave up on Obama a long time ago. And, for the poster who said this was reported on CNN, I think it's time to switch channels. |
