This is not a thing. The houses zoned to Skyview (in the other half of FF, in Chantilly Highlands, and the surrounding neighborhoods) cost the same as if not more than your precious Crossfield homes.

I do think they should move more Centreville kids to Westfield.

McDaniel brought up a long commute time from Crossfield to Oakton. But that's not why they bought KAA.

McDaniel also said the new school should fix the split feeding problem at Carson. Was fixing the split feeding issue the reason they purchased the school?

FCPS bought KAA to relieve capacity issue in Western Fairfax. That's the main goal.

All others such as travel time, feeding pattern, aviation program, etc are just minor issues.

It’s so frustrating. I feel almost bullied when I try to advocate for my kid to go to a closer school, and no one has given me a good reason. Makes me think it’s purely a desire to keep upper class

100% this - ever since I refused to join their Facebook group or sign the petition, I've been iced out by a group of parents we have been friendly with for years. It's been a really slow fade, but all of the sudden I realized that I hadn't heard from some people in a couple months and wonder if this is why.

And you are too smart to realize that Chantilly existed 15 years ago and crossfield parents chose not to buy in chantilly hs. They bought oakton and there's nothing wrong for wanting to stay where they bought for. It's surprising to see so many people think they know better than those who actually live in crossfield area. Btw, I am not a crossfield parent but I understand them.

You can believe what you want to believe and it should be ok for crossfield folks believe what they believe. The point is, it's understandable for them to want to get what they chose. Crossfields issue is that they are too divided and the politicians are worried about angering one of the groups by keeping the kids at Oakton or moving them to Skyview. Several parents in the threads on this board proposed sending the kids closest to Skyview to Skyview and leaving the rest at Oakton. I do think they should limit it to two schools, not 3 or 4, if they split the school.

That depends, if you get moved from an AP school to an IB school your area remembers it pretty well because now you have parents pupil placing for a program that they should have had. I think most of the schools will forget about this in a few years because the schools they are moving to are comparable or will be comparable. SLHS kids moving will be leaving IB but a good number of families are indifferent and a good number are happy to be returning to AP. There are some upset with losing IB but that is a smaller number.

Agree! When it was bought multiple school board members and FCPS specifically claimed one of the main purposes was to reduce overcrowing and long commutes from Herndon to Oakton! And now they aren't moving anyone out of Oakton whatosever!

It moves 1000 kids out of Westfield--which wasn't overcrowded--and only one group of poor kids out from Centreville.

They could have moved smaller numbers to Skyview out of Oakton, Westfield and Chantilly and that wouldn't have decimated Westfield.

It makes no sense. FCPS has completely lost the plot.

No kids north of 50 belong at Westfield. They never should have been there. It is geographically and socially isolated from the other Westfield neighborhoods.

+1 I don’t think PP realizes where those kids actually live. They are clustered very close to and north of Skyview. No one actually lives in the area south of Discovery Square down to 50.
