Just call it already. Its a mess out there.

Is it?

The posted totals are an inch at National and an inch in falls church.

An inch on roads with ZERO salt because it rained for hours before

Once daylight comes and the roads get traffic it will be gone quickly.

If they close school, I suspect by mid-day tomorrow that will look like a dumb call. Probably won't stop them however. We've all gotten very used to knowing the night before. I'm pretty surprised they are waiting. It's almost as if they want children to go to school.

The only one who looks dumb is you. It was still snowing this morning when my kid would have gone to school. You need to give plows time to plow and people time to shovel out.

Keep watching out your window for that plow. YOU are the smart one.

You think buses should drive on unplowed roads? You think buses should drive in bus lanes and staff should park in lots that have not yet been cleared?

I mean, I don't, but clearly you have different expectations. Open up NOOOOWWWW! Where's your sign?

It was doable at 9am this morning. I think the main reason APS closed is Fairfax.

Look out the window. The snow already melted off without plows.

Anonymous wrote:Agreed. It seems like the casualness of it all ...similar to increase in frequency of religious holidays/teacher's planning days that don't consider the difficulties of parents. In a pinch, Middle School kids can be by themselves but for elementary school kids, these days off are stressful and extremely inconvenient. A rare day here or there is understandable, but a whole week is nuts.
In addition, many parents come from regions in which snow and ice are commonplace and have a hard time understanding why this is so novel.

Of course they don’t. It’s not their problem. I’m flummoxed why you think they should care about the parents’ “inconvenience” or job woes.

if closures for 6 inches of snow is so triggering for you, suggest you move either to the north where they can handle it or to the south where they don't get any snow.

it's very normal for this region to close for 6 inches, and often for far less than that.

That won’t work either. Millions of Texas kids just had four ice (not snow) days off and no, it wasn’t the first time that’s happened.

Maybe Honolulu?

The “plow map” was inactive as of noon today. Arlington’s plan is “let it warm up”.

They plowed our road last night. We got around 4 inches in north Arlington. But I had to drive to Alexandria today, and there’s a steep drop off in snow. By this afternoon, zero snow by Theodore Roosevelt Island but plenty in my yard.

A delay tomorrow would be absurd. It's already pretty clear out there and it's not even noon. Of course, if Fairfax calls a delay, Arlington will too.

Have you heard of melting and refreezing overnight?

I have heard of this in times where there is slush on roads and sidewalks. I am in N Arl where we got more snow and roads and sidewalks are bone dry.

Fairfax proactively messaged they are starting on time. We are on time.
