I know Watts is 57, and Jackie was in her early 60s during this time period, but I think Watts looks much too young for the role. It looks like she is a sibling to Caroline and John, rather than their mother. |
| I don’t think anyone who was an adult at the time thinks it was a great love story. It’s just Hollywood trying to make money off two beautiful people who died tragically young. |
There were no accidents |
| I was looking forward to it but it’s just so drab, serious and unglamorous. Scenes at Jackie’s like watching paint dry, JFK JR right physically but lacking swagger. The main actress is uncharismatic, all wrong in terms of coloring. I think Sophie Turner would have matched CBK physically a lot better with the super light skin and very blue eyes, plus she has the height and more singular face. She also is an excellent actress. |
| I know nothing about Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, but I never liked that in photos of the couple, she always sort of stood a little behind JFK Jr and looked doen almost demurely (Meghan Markle used the same stance in the early years of her relationship with Harry). It always seemed fake/posed and like she didn’t view herself an equal. |
It was well-known that she hated being photographed. There was a video of her with JFK Jr being hounded by photographers in a parking garage and she just completely shut down. She found the attention so unbearable that she didn't even want to live in NYC after they were married. |
She didn’t like it and tried to hide. He was used to it and liked it. |
I can't believe I know this, but she was getting a pedicure. There are a few pics of her online sporting a pedicure, but I agree that I've never seen her with a manicure. |
How to reconcile this with the posters saying they dated for several years before committing to a monogamous relationship? Wouldn’t she have gotten somewhat used ro being photographed with him, or had enough experience with it to decide that life wasn’t for her? |
|
I will never watch it.
One, they don’t have any likeness or resemblance to Carolyn or John. Two, it’s complete heresy, thinly sourced. It’s not a documentary. It’s fictionalized. What’s the point? JFK Jr was a tremendous person - ethical, principled, a gorgeous lovely man. He would be disgusted with this. |
I don't get why being photographed is such a big deal. Put on sunglasses and headphones and just walk quickly by. |
Wearing big Beats like headphones or AirPods were not a thing yet. |
To me it’s like the Wuthering Heights grays now. There were elements that you can pick up on (their obsession with each other) that make it seem like a tragic love story, though the novel was always clearly not. I think it’s just because they died young and people can’t romanticize things. PS yes I think if they had continued, they would’ve had a really rough time and probably not staying together. I recently read Brooke shields memoir and she described a date with JFK Jr. that sounds horrible. She was not very nice about it. He wasn’t aggressive or anything, but I think she either felt like she had to sleep with him or something and she acted like he was no great lover. I do think people are being too hard on his intelligence. I actually thought George was way ahead of its time. I don’t think he was dumb, I just think he was average, but because of his looks and his pedigree, we expected the world from him. |
So she didn’t like attention & being photographed, so she married JFK Jr. & lived with him in NYC? Ok. |
They waited for her outside her apartment, followed her to work, etc. The Princess Diana thing had just happened and the media was always saying JFK Jr was "America's Prince." It was so bad she told people that's why she quit her job (probably bc the paparazzi knew her comings and goings when she worked.). They didn't have any security and their building didn't even have a doorman in those days. I think the massive attention just spooked her. |
