There is waaay to many local programs vs regional programs to believe that they all can be resourced well and successful.

+1

They are not capturing nor do they understand the different resources available at different schools. Some resources do not seem to count in their analysis which skews it and makes them think BCC and Whitman need more things, which is preposterous.

This is true for other HS and regions as well. I don’t see how they do this model without some local programs being consumed by the regional program. And honestly that might be the best option.

Maloo makes a great point--that students may be trying to enter the Blair SMCS program, not just any SMCS program.

Access to these renowned programs will be blocked under the proposed regional model.
Anonymous
SMOB keeping it real that you can't assume that every kid who applies to Blair or RMIB actually translates to them wanting a different SMCS or IB.
Anonymous
Taylor says that they are not planning on proposing major program changes at the regional level.

This is the same point/problem of the IB program. It’s the K-8 support plus the organized programming/cohort from 9-12th.

Oh wow, they are talking about local set-asides for criteria-based programs. Unbelievable on top of putting the humanities program at Whitman.
Anonymous
Sticking with giving local students a disproportionate share of seats at regional programs. So freaking inequitable.
Anonymous
Like, DOUBLE the number. They're throwing around numbers like 25-30 set aside for 1 school, vs 60 seats for the other 4 schools.

Rivera-Oven is pressing MCPS to schedule in-person sessions for Wheaton and Kennedy, so when/if they get scheduled, please attend and express your concerns.

MCPS of course does not have in-person sessions for programs analysis. You need to attend the in-person sessions for boundary studies in order to express your concerns about program analysis. There are no dates right now but check

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/facilities/boundary-study/ .

When a date is finally posted, go, even if it's not your HS.

Brand new and not up online yet. The changes I remember is that they are sending the criteria-based humanities program from BCC (bad) to Whitman (much worse), and that they are letting Einstein keep only the music part of the performing arts magnet (theater and dance at Northwood.)

Einstein also has medical science and healthcare

There’s no interest at Einstein to hold that magnet!

Speak for yourself. My kids would love that and as a parent of kids inbounds for Einstein, I think it’s a great switch!

Jeannie Franklin claims there has been a lot of community feedback. What a liar.
Anonymous
It is not likely that many URM would apply to go to BCC iB. This would make BCC less diverse.

They should put iB, SMCS, and Humanities in the high URM schools.

That’s great for YOUR kid but majority of Einstein students are into the arts. Almost 700 students are enrolled into The Visual and Performing Arts Academy. A medical program will not survive there.

Yes! High URM and high FARMS. Good on Laura Stewart for raising it.
