That would reflect caring about actual equity, not the perverted definition of equity that Taylor believes in which is actually ignoring all the resources rich schools have and pretending they have been deprived compared to the DCC.

Northwood should have the humanities program. Not frigging Whitman! My goodness, how out of touch are they?

So basically the humanities program in region 1 will effectively be just for Whitman and BCC kids-- barely any Einstein, Northwood, or Blair kids.

It also gets the interest based public service program and the interest based Middle College (MC?) program.

They’ve always had the Mc. I don’t think that many would choose public service. They need to poll families and ask what they want.

As Karla Silvestre is pointing out, every high school offers the opportunity to do DE at MC. So that's not a reason to move to a different high school.

Yeah I'm confused, why put a program that is about taking classes a MC in a specific high school? Do I misunderstand what Middle College is?

Middle College is cohorted from 9th grade on. So even though 9th graders aren't taking MC classes yet, they are taking HS classes as a cohort and receiving additional support from the Middle College Coordinator. Plus MC professors come to campus to teach classes in 11th grade. Dual Enrollment requires students to do more on their own and all of their classes are at MC.

Oh I see, that is cool

It's intensive and not all kids finish the full program. But it's been a good fit for my kid and even if they don't complete the AA, the cohorting has been helpful.

There is not enough focus being given on what courses constitute the base offering of core and elective classes at ALL HS.

There is waaay to many local programs vs regional programs to believe that they all can be resourced well and successful.

Why do you assume that? Seriously, you all are never going to be happy. For years, people have been complaining that Whitman should have a program to bring in diversity. Now they will have that and you all are still complaining.

They are not capturing nor do they understand the different resources available at different schools. Some resources do not seem to count in their analysis which skews it and makes them think BCC and Whitman need more things, which is preposterous.

There are so many details that cannot be fleshed out by next month (which is when MCPS wants to finalize the programs analysis)

DP, but Whitman is really not a very convenient location for Einstein, Northwood, or Blair students to travel to.

Also, will there be a set-aside in seats for the home school for each program? It would be really great if one of the Board members asked this.

DP

I have not been complaining about that. I don't know anyone who has been complaining about that. We are zoned for Einstein and have literally no desire for there to be a program at Whitman. It would be a nightmare commute.

Montoya calling out the pre-requisites is spot on. Some of this requires people to be on a path by 8th grade.
Anonymous
I wonder if they think putting programs at Whitman and BCC gives them an out from changing the boundaries of those schools? Smh

We said slow down and they hit the gas

So they just acknowledge that the program will be a "subset" of the existing successful programs. They used visual arts program as an example: basically the took a subset of VAPA curriculum to build the visual arts program.

So: the existing successful programs will decline due to dilution. The new programs will not rise to be anywhere comparable as it builds upon a subset of the successful recipe.

What HS would use Crown?

He mentioned Wootton and Magruder

Holy shit! I commented this idea 5-10x on DCUM ever since April.

I also know I included this in one submission of to the first survey mentioning this and think I suggested this to a BOE member. Wow at them listening to what I suspect wasn’t very commonly discussed.

This makes so much sense. Over the next 10-15 years Wootton, Magruder and QO likely need to be replaced or for QO renovated with an addition. By the end of the time it’s possible Churchill and maybe one other HS also need an addition/renovation. Using Crown for the next decade as a holding school for those three would be very smart. It’d make the cost of such a renovation less than having to do the renovation in pieces with students still attending.

Color me shocked!
