Why does cigar smoking seem way more socially acceptable than cigarette smoking

So how often is it safe? How many cigarettes can you smoke to minimize or eliminate the risk? The answer to both is zero.

If you're looking for zero risk I suggest you don't get out of the bed in the morning.

Personally, I enjoy a good cigar. I don't think anyone actually enjoys cigarette smoking. They do it because it's addictive.

I'm neither looking nor practicing zero risk. I am just not blind to the harms of the things I enjoy.

Smoking cigarettes seems to be frowned upon, but a bunch of guys getting on the patio to smoke cigars after dinner is OK?
I can't understand the rationale.

What's the problem? A good cigar after dinner is a real treat and no more a problem than having brandy

My guess is that your real grievance is you're left out. I mean, a woman is just a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke

Here you go. Not safer at all.

This is a 1:1 comparison. It says the more cigars the higher the risk. We're talking about an occasional cigar, not smoking a pack a days worth of cigars.

No, it's not, because that would be impossible to do. No one smokes 10-20 cigars per day. It is to inform people like you who fool themselves into thinking that just because you don't smoke a cigar every day, it's safer than cigarettes. There is also virtually no difference between those who smoke 3 cigarettes per day vs. those who smoke 15.

The amount of ignorance on this thread is amazing.

In the first place, there is a clear health difference between smoking 3 versus 15 cigarettes a day. In general, doctors measure cigarette usage by the 20 pack-year metric standard, which is equivalent to a pack a day over 20 years or the equivalent, which can half a pack a day over 40 years and so forth. It is when you have had a 20 pack year history that they recommend screening for cancer. Plenty of smokers never smoked a pack a day or even half a pack a day. It's a pretty well studied field.

Second, the casual cigar smokers aren't inhaling. They just puff and exhale. Cigars aren't meant to be smoked like cigarettes. Do some still inhale? Absolutely. But those young men puffing on cigars probably aren't.

I don't like either cigars or cigarettes but people have become extremists about them. The occasional casual usage is no big deal.

I love how you claim to be so knowledgeable and then post ignorant stuff like this.

Did you even bother looking up the pack day metric used by doctors for screening smokers, current or former? Somehow I don't think so. Because it wouldn't fit the narrative you are somehow desperate to believe, that somehow a cigar or a cigarette is going to doom you forever to cancer.

Just like there is a massive difference between enjoying the occasional glass of wine and being a raging alcoholic, there is a massive difference between enjoying the occasional cigar or cigarette and having a three pack a day habit. You seem to have trouble grasping this.

Both are gross to me and I leave the area when someone lights up. I cannot think of a time in the last 10 years that I have been inside a house and someone was smoking.

Prove that an occasional cigarette or cigar will not doom you to cancer. You can't. There is no study that would confirm that.

Prove to us that even occasional smoking (in moderation) is approved or okayed by any health professional. You're so desperate to smoke that you can't see straight.

People believe what they want to believe in order to soothe their fears. You're exhibit number 1.

You can't prove one cigar does any permanent damage so what different does it make? Your mental health seems to be taking a hit by continuing to argue with strangers but you don't seem to care much about that. Why should others care about a lone cigar?

Awww, so typical, when you have nothing left in your arsenal, resort to personal insults.

We CAN prove that smoking causes cancer, you absolute imbecile. We have been able to prove that for decades. So much so, they put it on every pack of cigarettes. Cigar smoking is smoking!!!! It's tobacco. You smoke it. I'm sure you think that your expensive cigar is no big deal because you're an absolute dipshit. See, we can both throw out insults.

Just getting angry that you're been proven wrong many times over.

Sure, go smoke up. As much as you can and as fast as you can. We will all be better off without you.

May everyone you pass by today blow smoke in your general direction. You will have the day you deserve.

No, smarter people than you have outlawed it a long time ago. I'll be just fine. You, however.....

I bet you smoke around your kids too, you POS.
