Suspicious House

Anonymous
Check to see if it's an Air BnB. The house next door to us was bought by a seemingly nice couple about 5 years who engaged in some unpermitted renovations and then proceeded to make it part of their Air BnB empire. Main owners come and go regularly as do a parade of other vehicles and people. They didn't put blackout curtains everywhere but probably should have. They rent the basement out separately - something like that might explain the traffic through the back door.

Every windows including the ones around the front door have black shades that are never up. Every window is black. There are several professional looking security cameras. Cars park around back out of site of the street. People must enter through the back door, never seen the front door open. There is a middle eastern looking man in late 40s who may be the owner and I've seen him for years. Other men come and go, often quickly, maybe delivery people.

In my imagination I fear that there are women imprisoned in this black hole of a house or they are doing something illegal. Should I report it? Who to call?

I agree that it sounds dodgy.

It could be innocent such as some type of illness that causes extreme light sensitivity.

However another possibility it that it is a meth or drug production lab. Apparently, people who make drugs illegally at home often have views to the interiors blacked out and usually have a ton of surveillance. The exclusive us back entrance could be to protect identities of drug clients/ sex clients if your feared scenario is true.

I doubt the police can do anything if there is no solid evidence of illegal contact. If you are really concerned you may need to hire a PI to collect evidence that would justify a search warrant.

Good luck figuring this out and what to do.

Get a heat seeking device and find out if there are people in the house.

He's been there for years and the windows have been blacked out for years, that and the bubble security cameras caught my attention. Otherwise the house looks ordinary. They have paved parking spaces behind the house. The cars come around back.

And if we were talking about a pretty white lady living there for years what would you think? Odd, maybe, but not "suspicious."

Because you are PROFILING.

I'd 100% think she was a madam running a sex trafficking operation

Because perhaps the OP is worried at some sort of terrorist cell? It's completely relevant.

Right. She's racially profiling. She's a racist.

She is observant. She noticed this person looked male. That's an observation not sexism.

Just stop. She "observed" that the man looked middle eastern. She considers that to be relevant. That, by definition, is racial profiling.

Ok! So what? Do you think trying to call someone out for what you decide is racial profiling does ANYTHING besides make you appear naive and willing to ignore potentially dangerous situations for fear of seeming racist?

Because there's nothing to see here except a middle eastern man. RACIST

Plus blackout curtains. Plus paved parking. Plus people coming and going. Plus no normal family members outside. There's a lot more than him being middle eastern going on.

We're not trolls. If OP had left out the ethnic origin of the homeowner, we would have responded to the actual topic. But we cannot let such racial discrimination go unchecked.

OP, I'm looking for an apology.

Racism against Arabs and Muslims is the most unacknowledged type of racism there is in the United States.
Also, know that "Middle Eastern" looks exist across all the countries that border the Mediterranean, Northern Africa, as well as the Middle East and Central Asia, AND encompass certain people of Jewish ancestry. I am French, and in southern France, some French people look like that without having a recent ancestor that came in from Africa or the Middle East. We've had centuries of people-mixing in the Mediterranean basin.
If you are referring to "Middle Eastern" looks in this context, I'll wager that you don't actually understand how common it is, and you don't actually know where this person originates from.

Thank you. These posters (and OP) are blind to their racism. I guarantee you the responses would be different if OP said the homeowner was a white woman.

Nope. We could have come up with ideas if were a white woman. Or a white man.

Paved parking is a gateway lots of illicit behavior.

Paved parking in back is not weird. People park in paved front driveways here. If there is room on the lot, they extend drive to a rear yard garage or parking pad. Why have your cars be in the front if you can avoid it?

Is it only men who enter or women too? Wondering if it could be some alternative medicine business or something like that.

If I saw a house with blacked out windows, men coming and going from the back of the house, Middle Eastern, and everything else OP described, I too would jump to wondering about a terrorist cell. It's not racist to come to a logical conclusion.

If they were Black, traffic coming and going 24/7, men with little baggies in the front yard, I'd jump to thinking they might be drug dealers.

If they were White, carrying coffins into and out of the house, I'd wonder if they were mobsters.

See how it works?

You are definitely racist. Many homes around here are now owned by entities that live oversees and park their money here through real estates purchases. They don't live in these homes and probably never will. They don't rent them out if they aren't trying to turn a buck.

Blacked out windows I'd say they are protecting the homes interior from the damages that sun and insufficient cooling/heating would do to an unoccupied home. People coming and going trades people doing maintenance on the home, etc.,

But if you want to go to the dark, then I'd say regardless of the race or nationality of the person who primarily occupies the home, if that person is a male then there is a pretty good almost 100% chance it's a brothel, house or ill repute, or whatever you want to call it. I say that because I think men can and are rule breaking gross, base, and awful when they think no one is watching and sex is involved. Most given the opportunity and the belief that THEY won't suffer any negative consequences, enjoy no strings, and no pain to them, cut and dry, easy and regular sex. Or cash for services rendered, quick in and out, no cuddles, no dinner dates, no convos, just regular servicing of needs which takes most what 5-10 mins start to finish. Much like one would use a toaster to make toast. A woman's or man's (per your preference) body as a toaster on a shelf, there if you need it. And that is all men, white, black, asian, hispanic, married, not married, young, old... and whatever other descriptors you want to throw in there, the one common denominator will be men. And people who make money off of the base nature of other men.

Using the back door only on a house with black shades that are always drawn? Sure...

There's a cell at 1600 Penn. FYI.

Do you only use the back door? Do you keep the curtains closed all day and night?

This is a great idea. And I have some suggestions. At night skulk around in the bushes. Where a black cat suit, bring your night vision googles. Don't forget your thermos and sandwiches!

Buy an old Crown Vic., sit in front of the house during the day, don't forget your thermos and sandwiches and a bottle/or bowl to pee in. Wear a short sleeved button down and a clip on tie. A pocket protector would be a nice touch. Take pictures, with a long range lens, lot's and lot's of pictures.

Post them on Next Door and post them here too. Get their attention! Smoke them out!
