Teen girls and casual sex

I think the best thing to do is to be sure there is birth control and condoms available and lots of education about consent and saying no. The sex will happen regardless of if its casual or with a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Yes, things have dramatically changed. Gen Z'ers don't have as much sex as the older generations since dating in general has declined. There are studies about this.

Sex hasn’t had anything to do with dating since the 1950s.

Heartbreaking.

I had one. Zero regrets and zero impact on my life. Not everyone is that dramatic

Many factors go in to how one feels about their abortion(s) as time goes on. Consider yourself lucky.

You never know how you will feel down the road. Not to mention, you sound like you are in denial to feel nothing.

Life goes on for these girls.

Exactly.

Is there anyone here (born and raised in the USA only), who never had any casual s*x in college?? (which normally begins at age 18, btw).

I didn’t, and lots of my friends didn’t - plenty did - but there is a big group who didn’t.

I am not judgemental about my friends who had casual sex - the majority of the time I think they felt like it was their choice and that felt empowering, but few thought the sex was good (usually bad) so ultimately not that satisfying.

I don’t think having casual sex should be normalized- it’s actually not the “typical” experience or even the experience of the majority of teenagers or college age kids.

I never did, literally - not religious or anything else, just not my scene. But more power if people want to

I didn’t either. I was already dating (though not yet sleeping with) DH at that point. We’re the only people we’ve ever slept with. Plenty of people never have casual sex.

I went to beach week myself, which is why there is no chance on Earth that I would call myself a chaperone in that setting. I can also say with 100% certainty that even years ago when we went to beach week if anyone’s parent was “chaperoning” us they wouldn’t have tolerated or condoned the behaviors.

If you’re supposed to be the adult in the situation then be the adult. Don’t gossip about it like you’re one of the girls. You’re not supposed to be their friend down there. You’re supposed to actually chaperone.

Ever thought about what "underage" really means?

The drinking age was any age for thousands of years. Then the Temperance Movement started in the early 1900s, and raised it to 12 in many countries. Then it was raised again to 18 where it stayed until recent times, then in the 1980s powerful lobbyist groups led by Reagan and that MADD bunch got it raised to 21 nationwide eventually.

It's all so arbitrary and nonsensical.

All laws are arbitrary. What’s your point?

21 isn’t an arbitrary age for drinking. Data shows less kids die with a higher drinking age.

I was a teenager once and know drinking/sex happens, but not in this facilitated way. Are other parents really okay with this while their kids are still living at home?

I would be fine with my kid going away for a weekend with friends at that age - this just seems nuts to me.

Can any of the “supply case of alcohol parents” speak up?

Yeah, I agree. There’s no way parents are sending their kids with “cases and cases.” That was a troll.

I’m glad I don’t have daughters now that oral sex is considered a “hook up.” That is completely crazy to me.

Care to expound on that? Cause that sure doesn't make any sense on the surface.

"Data" as you use it is completely arbitrary and irrelevant.
Age is just a number. It is also completely arbitrary and ridiculous.

Plus everyone knows the girls don’t enjoy the sex. The only reason they do it is they think it will please the boy or make him stay.

Wow, how sexist of you. Of course women enjoy sex as much as men. We are just more discreet.

Anne, was this you posting? I hope you are home safely and can recover from beach week.

Or it's the final exam on maturity before they go to college? Who can handle it and who can't. Because they supervise themselves at college.

This is such a good way of putting it. So true. If we’ve done our jobs, it is all ok but still it is scary. It’s all leading up to college. As long as they survive and thrive, they will make mistakes. Its not easy as we let go.
