This. I think this is a big new trend and it will just take certain people longer to realize that many of the NE schools are no longer desirable. Of COURSE you will still have tons apply, but it's more international full kids now anyway. The experience is different. |

I look at all those Alabama graduates laughing and clapping at that unhinged commencement speech last night and wonder what kind of education they've received. No full-tuition merit award would be worth sending my kid to MAGA camp for 4 years. Disgusting.
Will smart kids from the Northeast continue to "flock" to this hellscape? |
| I know of only one student in my daughter’s class who went Deep South. He went to Mississippi but only lasted a year. Culture shock was too much. |
It’s not the students with options from better schools. |
| I'm in Massachusetts and SO many kids are going to South Carolina, Auburn, Elon. It's baffling to me but the big rah rah southern schools are definitely in fashion. These are not kids with top stats so that's part of it, but I still wonder how much bang for the buck the degree gives them when many want to move back north in 4 years. |
Generally agree but Elon is much different than the other two. It is a small private and has been drawing a decent percentage from the northeast. It is far from an Ivy but for a kid who might have been considering Skidmore or something like that, it is a decent alternative. Also, no guarantee these kids want to move back north - they might be happy staying down there. Though that depends somewhat on the political climate... |
Yes, at Alabama the top out of state representation is from Georgia, then Illinois, florida, Texas, and Tennessee. None of which are in the NE. |
|
The nominal number of kids attending is still nearly nonexistent in the scheme of things.
LSU went from 100 to 558…but LSU has 32,665 undergrads. So the %age is still only 1.7%. |
We all know that this just isn't true; but keep dreaming. |
STFU |
To be fair there was an active counter protest yesterday. Not everyone there is a a MAGA nut. |
I'm in CA in the bay area. You get a TCU, SMU, Auburn kid every now and then but in general nobody except low stats kids ever go to Souothern schools and it is rare for them as well. Just not attractive to people out here. |
| Wow the liberals are mad always insulting people with different political viewpoints. The trend in wealthy suburbs across the country to the SEC is only magnifying. Amazed at how many are going south! Qualify by not seeing Bama, Auburn, or UFlorida decals on Teslas. Most families are independents or Republicans not lefties |
Not sure about other schools but Florida has significantly increased OOS acceptance rates at the expense of IS students. It’s insanely challenging to get in as an IS student now. |
Wrong, don’t make this political. There are liberals in the SEC and conservatives at elite privates. -SEC booster |
