Missing college student in the Dominican Republic from Ashburn

A guy meets a girl out at a bar on spring break…. He thinks they’re going to go hook up. They end up swimming in the ocean and she doesn’t pop up after a wave came – I would hope most would go alert authorities, but I can also imagine a young man freaking out, not knowing what to do.

Nah, even a child would know to tell someone.

His not doing so is extremely suspicious.

Based on the news story she was swimming with a group and was hit by a wave of/never resurfaced. The group alerted the hotel staff but there was a lapse between that and real search starting?

I don’t meant to be cruel but the chances are she got dragged out by a current or taken by a shark. 4 am in the ocean is an unsafe place to be. I don’t think this a another Natalie Holloway situation.

I think you need a reality check buddy. A 20 something young man probably popping pills is gonna go Tell the authorities? Hell, no he’s probably scared as hell He’ll get arrest arrested.

Not your buddy and failing to report someone in the water in distress may also be a crime.

No kidding, but we’re talking about a young man whose frontal lobe is not fully developed and is obviously under the influence. It’s easy to think up of 100 different reasons why he may not have reported immediately.

This exactly.

When I heard the story the first time, the comments section was full of people being like "OMG those aren't real friends! Girls don't leave girls behind!" Uh, what? Girls leave girls behind when the one they are leaving behind is staying behind to hook up with a guy. That's exactly what this was.

I can think of at least 4 times this happened to me when I was in college. It's crazy to look back now as an almost 40-something and realize how lucky I and most of my friends really were. We all did this exact same dumb thing at least once a year.

Spring break '05 Cancun is where I learned that beach sex is not hot or romantic like in all the movies and TV shows. I bet there are at least a dozen or more women on DCUM who had Spring Break boyfriends.

Exactly. I mean, just look at the Idaho murders. The texts from the surviving roommates were just released. They were so scared and freaked out, yet too drunk to realize they should call 911 immediately. Drunk people make terrible choices.

It's taken 3 days for this to hit the media. She's a lovely, brilliant young woman - hope they find her.

Are they not US citizens then?

No, they are Indian citizens who moved here to send their kid to Thomas Jefferson.

Couldn't they have dual citizenship?

The article posted above says legal permanent resudent. I'm not really sure what the difference is between that and a dual citizen, but I assume there is a difference.

India does not allow dual citizenship. I had to formally renounce Indian citizenship and surrender my passport once I was naturalized in the US. Regardless, they seem to be legal permanent residents (green card holders), not US citizens yet.

Hoping and praying that this young woman is found safe.

Did I read that right, she wasn’t alone? There was someone with her so I’m confused about the mystery of this.

That didn’t make sense to me either. If they were swimming and she disappeared it’s unlikely she was abducted.

I don’t know why it doesn’t make sense to you. She randomly met someone with her friends. They were taking a walk together and they were hammered at 3-5 am. He may not clearly remember all of the details or may have been scared shitless when she drowned while they were swimming together. They’re working through to validate his story

They were probably both drunk and it was dark, so he may not have been at all clear on exactly what happened. Kids do dumb things. Poor girl and her family.

If he were really drunk, he might have been both confused and scared to go to the authorities. Maybe he thought she just left? It was dark.

They were probably both out drinking and decided "hey, let's go down to the beach". One lay down on the sand and dozed off. This second girl decides to check out the water. First girl wakes up and can't find her friend.

I can 100% see this happening.

Ok not really shocked because…

It's all over my X feed. A lot.

If MSM is your source for all, that's who your issue should be with...and perhaps yourself.

Bless your heart. It’s on TMZ and People now. Media outlets were just alerted this morning, and it’s Sunday morning. But, you’re racist, so.

I truly hope she is safe and they find her.

I hope we are wrong and the press keeps up the coverage but it’s a fact that missing brown and black girls don’t receive the same amount of press as missing white girls.

PP you're responding to. Agree that was the case. It's not longer the case. Let's move on from the past, let go of virtue signaling and anger and old liberal talking points and focus on sending well wishes to her family and pray that she returns home safely. If you're really that concerned, you'd redirect the time you spent googling left leaning data and you'd be emailing news outlets with her info instead. You're just salivating to turn this into an issue of racism. Let's keep this productive.

Shut the fuuuu up. Nancy Grace wasn’t talking about this poor girl last night.

You shut up, loser. I live in the community. There wasn’t a push to get this on media until late yesterday, early this morning.

If it was Sally Blue Eyes, it would’ve been all over the news YESTERDAY.
Your name calling is uncouth. Why does where you live matter at all?

Your arm must hurt from patting yourself on the back so much.
