Ok not really shocked because…

It's all over my X feed. A lot.

If MSM is your source for all, that's who your issue should be with...and perhaps yourself.

It was on today show as a special segment today not sure how much more mainstream you can get. Not sure what media outlets PP is using.

Has it been confirmed she was with a guy? And is this guy another spring breaker or local?

I have not read anything that said the group did not alert authorities. Why do people think authorities were not alerted? The articles I read said they have all been interviewed and are not considered suspects. Not everything is sinister or an episode of Dateline.

So then they would know if she had been kidnapped or swept out to sea.

Of note: the resort had no power for at least 24 hours. There is speculation that her phone was dead, which is why she didn’t bring it.

The whole situation is a literal nightmare. Praying for strength for her parents and friends.

Why not? We have high incomes and could go anywhere but frequently go there for thr direct flights, short distance from airport to residence, etc

DP. Are you aware the DR has had a U.S. State Dept. Level 2 Travel Advisory since last June?

Reissued after periodic review without changes.

Exercise increased caution in the Dominican Republic due to crime.

Country Summary: Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide, and sexual assault, is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic. The development of a professional tourist police corps, institution of a 911 system in many parts of the country, and a concentration of resources in resort areas means these tend to be better policed than urban areas like Santo Domingo. The wide availability of weapons, the use and trade of illicit drugs, and a weak criminal justice system contribute to the high level of criminality on the broader scale.

It seems they do know that. DR is not viewing this as a crime. The girl's family are the ones making a fuss.

Are you being sarcastic? Hopefully you are because Level 2 is nothing unusual.

Are you surprised that staying in a 2 star resort in a third world country might not be safe. Come on now. Why do you think hotels in Florida cost $1000. Of course I'd rather be going to the DR or Mexico, but they are not safe.

A guy meets a girl out at a bar on spring break…. He thinks they’re going to go hook up. They end up swimming in the ocean and she doesn’t pop up after a wave came – I would hope most would go alert authorities, but I can also imagine a young man freaking out, not knowing what to do.

As they should. It took days to find out if she were in the ocean or if someone grabbed her? Poor detective work Nd communication, not to mention supposed friends who really aren't.

Media is reporting us as a drowning. There was another person with her when they were both hit by a rogue wave.

No, she was with a group of 6 female friends. She went to swim in the ocean and was caught by a big wave. Read the news before speculating.

Life is fragile. I feel so sad for her and her parents.

I've been to Punta Cana and it's the safest part of the DR. That travel advisory applies to the country in general. It even says right there in the advisory that resort areas tend to be better policed than urban areas like Santo Domingo.

You can make good or bad decisions in any country (including the United States). If she had been asleep in her room at 4 am this wouldn't have happened.

Because they’re probably under the influence of illegal substances and didn’t want to go to the police yet ….maybe not but that’s just one theory. Remember these are kids not adults using adult brains.
