meant to say big name public. |
Anti-Christians can't help themselves and feel oblicated to chime in whenever Liberty University is mentioned. |
| *obligated |
I don’t have an anti-Christian issue with Liberty. I’m not the one that posted about the books. I do think the treatment of women is horrific, though. As well as the history of the creepy family who was in charge. |
|
OP here. Can we please stop discussing Liberty? It's completely out of the question for DC.
So far, thank you for the helpful responses. We are going to look at: Longwood CNU WVU Are there any others that would be a good fit for a sporty mainstream child that are akin to JMU/Penn State/VT but more for a B profile student? |
Elon, UTK, Auburn, Clemson |
You could add UNC Wilmington/Charlotte, College of Charleston, U Vermont, UConn, UMass. Not sure about the merit though. |
U Vermont is crunchy granola patagonia bernie sanders left wing democratic |
I can agree with this part as a Christian and Liberty is a hard pass for our family also. However we know some really great Liberty grads who enjoyed the school and are doing well in their chosen perspectives. Associating someone who graduated from there with the founders horrible failures is weird. |
This board (esp the Religion forum) attracts a certain category of ex-evangelical, current atheist who really, really, really hates Christianity. The "fairy tales" comment upthread reads like one of those posters. That person likes to use "fairy tale" a lot to talk about all religions - but they really only mean Christianity. |
why not radford or odu? |
I will float those as well. But DC has heard a lot of negative talk about Radford so doesn't seem excited about it. |
Like what? I have never heard these schools spoken about so have no idea. |

For some of the big out-of-state publics, you can get in with a 3.5 but you won’t get merit aid. For others you will.
Look at university of South Carolina, University of Tennessee, u Delaware, Indiana, pitt and Penn State. Not engineering or business or nursing, but less popular programs or liberal arts you will get in but a 3.5 or below probably won’t get merit, and it will probably be around 50-60k. For some other out of state, especially ones out west that want to attract DMV students, you may get merit. I’ve heard good merit stories from like university of Minnesota, or university of Montana, etc., The smaller slacs and jesuit schools like Susquehanna, Gettysburg, juniata, st joes, Loyola md, etc May also have merit aid. |

people crap on radford a lot, which I think is unfortunate. It's a perfectly fine place for the kids that aren't academic superstars.
the campus is quite nice. It has one of the nicest rec centers we toured. they also just built a lovely new building that houses quite a few departments, including one of the prettiest dance studios in the country. the town is not the best, but the current prez encourages cooperation with VT, less than half an hour away. there is a radford student section at VT football games. |
