Underrated gems in VA for B student

Anonymous
Can someone please point me to the underrated gems in VA for an average B student with a mainstream personality (sporty, social and not nerdy/artsy--in fact, prefers to avoid anything artsy/emo etc.)? I know about VCU/Mary Washington (not interested in these). Looking for other schools. Interested in sports science, nursing, psychology etc. but also undecided.

I'm sorry but there are only so many schools and most have been discussed thoroughly. Not sure any are "hidden".

Not underrated, but JMU is the obvious choice for this type of student.

Radford has a decent nursing program

I feel like this is what Radford used to be? JMU too but it has really improved in the rankings.

Other options for state schools:

-Old Dominion U (at the beach)
-Longwood (although I find the town waaaay too creepy)

SLACs:

-Shenandoah U (has the music conservatory but also very sports science oriented)
-Roanoke College seems like it would be a good fit
-Randolph Macon, cute town and kind of the prototypical small school
-U of Lynchburg cut a ton of programs lately so IDK but that's another "B students who are happy-go-lucky people" option

I haven't seen any "thorough" discussions of any schools beyond VT, UVA, W&M, JMU, GMU and at times VCU. Kid would love a school like JMU but is looking for backups given their lower GPA. Also is not interested in staying in NOVA and doesn't like the urban/artsy "emo" feel of VCU.

A B student isn’t getting into JMU anymore.

Is ODU an HBCU?

Roanoke! We loved this school when my kid toured.

What about CNU? We know kids there who love it.

Is ODU an HBCU?

Nope, just standard state school.

Is ODU an HBCU?

No. ODU originally was the Norfolk campus of William & Mary College. Later, ODU split off and became independent (just as GMU originally was the Fairfax campus of UVa).

The public HBCU in the Norfolk area is Norfolk State University (NSU). The private HBCU in that area is Hampton University.

Hard pass on Liberty. They hid rapes on campus. Plus your resume will be thrown in the trash, as it should be.

Colleague’s son went there, loved it, got a degree in Accounting, and was recruited by the Big-4. Accepted a job offer before graduating and now is doing well at a big-4 accounting firm.
