Hey is it good diplomacy to demand the Panama Canal back?

We (the US) needs to take drastic action to stem the flow of fentanyl into the US. The Panama Canal is one major travel route for the fentanyl trade. You might have heard of the opioid crisis. It’s kind of a problem in the US, OP.

Also, the US built the Panama Canal and controlled it until….1999.

So Trump is going to get them to cut transit fees to get costs down for the fentanyl traders? Makes perfect sense.

What are you talking about? You sound unhinged.

Did you read Trumps post? Apparently not.

The issue Trump is raising is about China-controlled ports there, and I don't see why the US should have to put up with China imposing extortionate fees on access to a canal we built. It's actually very bad foreign policy to ignore our adversaries and cede dominance to them.

We also have the issue of China controlling ports in the US. This is behind Trump supporting the union over automation.

Yeah. Interestingly, the people on the thread expressing anger about Trump's position haven’t explained why they are in favor of China's dominance in that region.

Easy answer.

Because modern American democrats are actually communists-in-hiding, and being communists, they will aid and abet other communists - excuse me - fraternal socialist allies - around the world.

If something is good for the Chinese Communist Party, then it’s good with American democrats, too.

You are giving the Dems too much credit. They are not capable of an international conspiracy and carrying water for the COMINTERN. It is much simpler. After 20 years of identity politics Cultural Revolution brainwashing, most Dems just view everything as “Whitey bad POC good” ergo supporting Chinese communist and “LatinX” drug runners equals good.

I think you made your point.

The good news is that we ain’t negotiating. We can just take it and the Panamanians can go back to banana farming and money laundering.

Gross

Right? You crazy fks. No we can’t just do that. As badly as you want to live in a Christofascist, authortarian state that does that kind of thing, no.

Also, now Trump has again claimed he wants to “buy Greenland”. Even though they said no 15 times already. 4 years of this bullsht? Of absurd claims and Will decrees that make us look stupid on the world stage?

4 more years.

I know half of America reads at a 5th grade level, but I’d really like those who voted for him to let me know if it’s helpful to talk that way. Thanks!

Just to clarify - 54% read at sixth grade level or below - so highly likely that half are reading at lower than 5th grade level.

I think there should be political literacy tests (verbal OK for those who can’t read) before being allowed to vote.

But mandatory voting for those who can’t pass political literacy test.

Yes! I would LOVE a civics test before being allowed to vote. Absolutely. But no verbal crap. You have to read the test, in English.

100% agree.

Yes, 4 more years of dumping every stupid thought he has on social media and sharing it with the world. So klassy, such leadership.

You know….I thought about this almost the entire time I was walking my dogs just now… and I think you’re probably right. At least with the masses. I still contend that there are communist fellow travelers among our gilded coastal elite of the democrat party, but among the rank-and-file leftists, it’s probably as you elude to.

They’re not even smart enough to be actual ideologists.

Very sad. We assign these people too much credit.

And I think, by your cryptic response, you’re not foolish enough to be unaware that Trump is clearly shouting at world leaders in a completely unhinged and unpresidential way, that accomplishes nothing, but you’re also not independent enough of a thinker to be able to separate yourself from a lemming-like (or cultish) attachment to dear leader.

You know this is wrong, but you’re so far gone in supporting it he could literally do anything and you’d follow him off a cliff. Because you’re in a cult.

So much for the “no wars” gibberish you guys were pushing. We always knew you were lying.

Your insistence that MAGA is full of peaceniks is hilarious. You do understand we are the 2A, Peace Through Strength party, right? We never claimed to be pacifists. On the contrary, as you know, international business will be conducted behind the barrel of a gun.

Yes. That's the issue with China hawks or people who are aware of international affairs. We are all illiterate.

I agree with you. The OP and others who are upset with Trump for taking up this issue are unable to offer a reason why it's wrong apart from "Trump yelled on Twitter." Which, if you read his statements, is quite a stretch. They are not able to differentiate the issue from the delivery, not able to discuss any historical or policy related issues on this topic. They can't even see the connection between China's control of ports accessing the Panama Canal, and how this issue relates to geopolitical control of Latin America. They have failed to demonstrate the most basic knowledge of an issue *they raised,* and have repeatedly insisted that everyone who opposes them is illiterate. I have to question what kind of hellhole they crawled out of, that they find it even plausible that over half of the country reads at a 5th grade level. In any case, yes, they dont seem to have the intellectual capacity to be Communists.

Trump is the know-nothing king of the know-nothings. Everything he says and does is based on ignorance and arrogance.
