He’s reasonably intelligent, not all that articulate though. No need to lie about him — just listening to him share his thoughts and priorities is cringe-y enough. |
He’s just another well-educated but mediocre conservative sociopath who will do and say whatever it takes to con bigots and paranoids to vote for him while he kisses the asses of mega donors. |
Did you bother to listen to the entire clip? She didn't "have" to take leave - she wanted to. If I had the opportunity to care for my own (hypothetical) grandchildren, I would jump at the chance. She then returned to her professorship. Sounds like she was in a very fortunate position to make this kind of choice. |
What a strange thing to wonder. You realize that many women - and some men - decide to leave their careers in order to raise their children, right? Nothing odd about that whatsoever. DP |
Funny that none of you will acknowledge that Vance didn't make that comment. The guy interviewing him did. |
+1 It would. I've never seen Democrats make this proposal either... |
+100 It's beyond telling that liberals are objecting to his point - that having a grandparent care for your kids is a wonderful thing. My own mom did something very similar and we all benefitted from it. My kids grew so close to her and didn't have to attend daycare. Bonus all around. |
Again, he did not say those words - the podcast host did. But do continue with your outrage. DP |
As much as I would like this kind of expansion, PAID family leave is so much more important for middle class and the working poor. We don’t have that yet either. Democrats DID propose paid family leave. Do you know what happened? Or who blocked this bill? Can you guess?

As a post menopausal female, I’ve read a bunch of books on the anthropology of menopause. The interviewer framed it all backward - the question isn’t why post menopausal women exist, the question is why menopause exists. Why don’t human women go on bearing children into old age? Other species do. The reason is that it benefits human beings, human societies, human families, for women to have a life stage where they do things other than mothering children. Sure, that can be taking care of grandbabies. But there are all sorts of roles older women played in pre-historic cultures - leader, healer, teacher. Just like post erectile dysfunction men. And those roles are good for human survival. |
Why is he on a podcast with another dude talking about women’s menstruation at all? That’s super weird. |
She quit when her husband accepted the VP job for Trump — even if the purported reason was raising their children. I find it curious that she decided to give up her independent income before her husband’s next job is a done deal. Many people would do that. Many people would not. |
It's expected in Republican circles. |
Why is he hanging out with someone who talks like that to a national audience? Bad judgment. And why did he agree with the host? Even worse judgment. |
Two conservative guys had a weird cringy podcast conversation judging the value of women based on how the women serve them. There was no disagreement, not even a “yes, but …” from Vance. He agreed that his mother in law’s value was her childcare contribution. |
