+100 Funny how "it takes a village" didn't cause this much outrage, yet it's basically saying the same thing. |
DP. Tell us you're a nutcase without actually telling us. Good grief. They had all of their classes together in law school and met there. Any more weird lies you'd like to spread? |
I don't remember it being a post menopausal female village. |
Or any implication that caring for children is that age group's sole purpose. |
Bingo. |
The radio host said that, not Vance. If you listen, Vance did not disparage his mil, he praised her. The "why didnt she keep working and help pay for childcare?" comment was to say that society puts more value on the $$. This thread is really taking comments (not even said by Vance) out of context. |
If you want to have a career in politics and appeal to a wide range of people, I imagine one of the simplest things you can do is simply decline to be on a program where something so offensive will be expressed, and if you happen to be in that situation anyway, couch (hehe) your statements in such a way that it’s clear what you really mean. And if you find yourself in a situation where you said something stupid anyway, despite your best efforts, you need to have a way to apologize or clarify without digging your hole deeper. If a politician can’t manage this, they shouldn’t expect anyone to vote for them. |
Uh, no, they were in context. |
No, it isn’t saying the same thing at all. Vance is expecting women in his life to sacrifice to serve his needs but he is not offering to help them or anyone. He’s just a taker, not a giver. |
Because it was the village and not specifically the “post-menopausal females” tasked with raising up the kids. That’s a huge difference. |
It’s as if you’re on the verge of acknowledging that what Vance agreed with is offensive and very weird, but your tribalism prevents you from having the thought. |
You know nothing about me or my "tribe".
I just listen carefully and form my own opinions. You may convince yourself about what I and others think but you won't convince me. |
Vance thinks it’s so important for grandmothers to be caretakers for grandchildren that he moved 800 miles away from his mom and wrote a memoir smearing her as a junkie. |
