Look you clearly don't understand the issue which coaches find annoying. When a coach goes to watch a game, the 22 players they are watching on the field are not all eligible for a single recruiting class that coach may be focussed on filling. From a pure logistics perspective, that is just overall a PIA for coaches as it means cross referencing roster or do unnecessary follow up work that wouldn't be necessary if every player on the field was eligible for the same recruiting class. It's been a problem in need of a solution for a while. Unnecessarily complex for leagues like ECNL where the focus is primarily on college recruiting vs. pro. This willl streamline.

They show up already knowing who they're coming to watch.
If someone previously not on their radar stands out, they simply ask the team for information on the player.

It still simplifies the issue of an instate school who wants to recruit 2 2026s from the same club that might be on different teams because of birth year. It allows them to wrap it up in one game and maximize their reach at events.

As simple as this statement is.....this poster hits it on the head. I won't go too much into my background, but you can read between the lines. For every club, a scout has to watch 2 age groups. The U17s and U19s, a portion of the U17s are too early to recruit and a portion of the U19s have already been recruited. This tells me that ENCL is laser focused on making the college coach's life easier and the results are that he/she can see more recruitable players across more clubs.

How is that easier and a better option for college recruiting than MLS Next tournaments and showcases?

Just because they are the mighty MLS doesn't mean that their U17 players magically all graduate in a single year. they don't. MLS has the exact same issue as ECNL. No doubt they will follow suit now that USYS and ECNL has streamlined and gotten rid of the trapped player mishap. However. MLS is less focussed on college recruiting, more on pro where graduating year doesn't matter. But MLS next...

DMV is not popular recruiting for most sports anymore. If you listen to the college coaches, they recruit based not just on the athlete, but the family. And DMV parents are awful compared to the rest of the nation.
