Sounds like it's going into effect for the 25/26 season for ECNL. |
Is this only for ECNL/US Club Soccer or also USYS leagues? |
Sounds like it's just for US Club |
Not sure how that would work with tournaments if it is just US Club. |
Huge, really? If your player was born in Sept-Dec they move down a year to play with their grade. It used to work this way less than 10 years ago. It’ll be fine. |
There have been studies that show advantages for players with earlier birthdays because they mature earlier, get picked for top teams at young ages, and get the advantage of the early attention.
Right now this means if you were born in January you have the biggest advantage and December is at a disadvantage. With this change, the winners will be those born in Sept and the losers are those born in August. It nets out the same but it’s good for some and bad for others. |
How can ECNL be different than US Youth Soccer and MLS Next? |
someone will lose. The last players that were moved around are graduating in 2025. This would be stupid idea. |
Yes, but someone else will win. It cancels each other out. |
It's only stupid if your kid isn't a trapped player. It would revert a stupid idea that fixed nothing yet created a whole host of other issues. But now we will just spend all day rehashing all the same arguments from the other thread until something is actually announced. |
It's one-half a year! Get over it. |
The bias around the birthday happens no matter where you draw the line. The advantage to moving the line is keeping kids together with their school friends and not having trapped players.
I am obviously the parent of a trapped player, as all the Q1 birth parents just come in and shout and yell about how its a bad idea and we should get over it. |
