I saw some pics of it on FB this weekend m and it looks like some sort of county fair. I have no idea why this is such a big to do. But I do empathize with feeling left out.

It's a big to do. When my kids were in MS, we made sure to have plans out of town on Memorial Day weekend to avoid the stress. Same with Halloween. It's not fun for kids who don't have a group or a friend to go there with.

Wow, I had no idea, since I don't live in Vienna. We went years ago when our kids were little so they could go on the carnival rides.

It's like a yearly town carnival with food, rides, and entertainment.

Yes, lots of people go to VV but I wouldn’t call it a big to-do. I’ve lived in Vienna for 16 years and have a 16yo and 19yo. Sometimes my kids went with friends, sometimes they went together, sometimes we went as a family (even when they were tweens/teens!).

Grown woman saying girls are asking to cat called and assaulted based on what they wearing is crazy to me. This thread is a bunch of possessive helicopters who believe judging other young kids is a healthy hobby

You wouldn't feel sad if your kids were sad about something?

No, this would not make me sad. You are not fragile. Your children are not fragile. This is very ordinary bumps and bruises of life. It is good for all people to experience it and know they will be just fine.

EXACTLY!!!!!

The helicopters and snowplows try to make everything ok and in turn raise kids that have no backbone, no resilience, no street smarts, no autonomy, and no self determination.

What do they have instead? Anxiety, depression, and phone addictions.

The ones needing to post their trip to a fair with their besties on Insta are the ones with anxiety and phone addictions.

If that upsets OP’s kids then they should really consider what they hope to gain from social media. Turn down the noise on things that bother you.

The obsession with Viva Vienna is ridiculous. It’s a crappy carnival with the same rides and horrible food every year. Teach your kids to seek out better forms of entertainment.

I was replying to the bold. The ones living their lives on SM have the real issues.

+10000. It’s smelly, noisy, and crass.

It wasn’t a party with invitations. The two kids texted friends about meeting up with them or going with them and they rudely never responded.

I’ve taught my kids not to exclude someone if they ask to join in. Whether it’s a birthday party or just hanging out. Unfortunately most mothers just don’t care and they pass that lack of empathy on to their kids.

It’s understandable to feel upset. They reached out to friends, and friends couldn’t be bothered to respond back.

It's understandable for the children to be upset, but why is mommy devastated about this? It's pathetic.

It's a spring festival. I don't why all these mommies think it's like the prom of Vienna. My teens had zero interest in going - it's geared towards younger children. I asked and they said "that's for babies, mom, ugh" so maybe OP's kids are like 11/12?

No, I don't let their emotions impact mine.

There’s an expression about how mothers can only be as happy as their saddest kid. If their heart is breaking so is mine.

I had like one friend in high school and no friends in middle school. I wasn't invited to anything.

Fast forward to present (mid-40s), I have a nice house, make lots of money, married with kids and a good life overall.

So, don't worry too much. Life is a long game.
