Only jerks don't try to isolate when they have COVID.

I work with elderly people. I'm testing so I don't kill anyone.

This poster claims they are testing so they "don't kill anyone". Basically they are saying anyone who goes out while testing positive is a murderer.

People are still dying from Covid. If someone knowingly has Covid, or strongly suspects it and does nothing, you very well could be part of a serious or fatal infection chain. I can't imagine not masking if I was infectious and around others. Same with flu.

Just highlighting this response for the poster who says "nobody is suggesting isolating for more than 10 days".

They said masking, not isolating. What they are saying is their personal belief, in any event. Do you deny that if you are out and about with COVID and are around people, you could transmit it to other people?

Anybody can transmit COVID at any time because anybody can be asymptomatic at any time.

If you are feeling better after having COVID, the odds of transmitting are very, very low.

I don't care if people mask, but yeah I think people who think I am a murderer because I didn't mask on Day 10 are ridiculous, sad people.

I don't think you are a murderer, but I think it's ridiculous and sad for you not to care enough about others if you know you are likely infectious.

Feeling fine on Day 10? No, I am not "likely infectious". You are making sh&t up so you can feel superior to other people.

If you are on Day 10 and test and have a red line, are you masking or not? We know YOU won't test on Day 10 b/c you think it's insane, but let's say you test and it's dark red. What are you going to do? Based on that, refer to my comment above.

Where do you live that you don't test for flu, strep, COVID, etc?

I mean, the last time (a month ago) I took my kid to the ped with a cough and runny nose, they didn't test kid for anything. It was allergies.

There's literally no point to testing that far out if I am feeling fine and didn't take Paxlovid. If I'm not feeling fine, then that's different.

The majority of us DON’T work with elderly people. We’re not going to kill anyone anymore than if we don’t isolate with the common cold. Stay in your lane.

Are you so stupid that you don't understand how infections work? You spread COVID if you don't isolate. That COVID spreads to vulnerable people who might not otherwise have been infected.

It's like the worst effect of the pandemic is how selfishness and recklessness with public health has cemented in some people's hearts as a badge of their identity.

My point was if you have reason to think you are infectious (very positive test, or if you still have symptoms) are you masking? That's what makes or breaks you being a selfish jerk. It's that simple. I test because I work with kids and they have two big school trips coming up this week and next. My tests are crazy dark, so yeah, I'm testing up to Day 10 even though I feel better, because Michael Mina and others have said it's a good proxy for infectiousness. I don't want to be the one who spreads the FLIRT variant around the two best weeks of school - so yeah, I'm extra cautious. That doesn't make me superior - I think that's basic human consideration. I also mask for ten days after the flu - it's not a big sacrifice for me, and can help ensure others don't get sick.

The problem is that you see this whole discussion as being about who is a "selfish jerk" and who is not, and I thought we were actually talking about the extent to which rapid antigen tests say you are infectious or not. You clearly are not capable of having a discussion about this without resorting to insulting people. Do you get that you are convincing nobody of anything except that you are an angry person?

Also, I've always found the "well you can just wear a mask" thing, "I don't mean you need to isolate" thing a good reminder that so much bad policy and misinformation was made by people who don't have young children or others in their family who can't wear well fitting masks. Part of the reason I was so afraid of sending my kid back to daycare on Day 6 is because she was 3 yo at the time and going into a space where she'd need to eat indoors at least 3 times during the day, and was prohibited from wearing a mask for 2 hours in the afternoon during nap time. So, should I have taken off another full week of work during one of the busiest times of the year? We actually did end up keeping her home an extra day, after which I realized that the daycare teachers themselves were not worried since they had seen this before and people don't tend to spread much COVID after Day 5. Getting all worked about people who don't mask on Day 10 is really focusing on the wrong thing. Spending your day seething at people for this is about you, not about anybody else.

There's literally no point to testing that far out if I am feeling fine and didn't take Paxlovid. If I'm not feeling fine, then that's different.

Yeah… you’re testing because you want two weeks off from school.

I'm a sub at my kid's school. I literally don't get paid if I don't work, but nice try to bash teachers.

Okay so you don’t want to sub for two weeks and want a legitimate excuse to justify to your partner why you’re not earning money.

I’m picturing Zoolander and his black lung cough.

My husband is working for NATO and we are overseas where there aren't jobs in my field, but feel free to come back with yet another jerky retort.

Philosophy aside, are there any new and different symptoms with the latest strain?
