Friend bringing kids and dogs on our girls weekend trip

Or it could be the opposite - that as rude as it was, the friend presented things unilaterally because she really wants this trip w OP and was trying in a very clunky way to not give OP the chance to back out. But if OP has known this woman for decades, I guess she would have known if this was the case.

Wait, never mind. Just reread OP - I missed that “friend” is offering OP a corner of her bed while her kids take their own room? Wtf? Aaaaabsolutely not!!!! Like not even if she offered to cover 75% of the cost, since she’s proposing her family take up 75% of the sleeping space (as well as 75% of the bathroom space). What kind of pushover are you OP that you let this be dictated to you?

And I said this before but the dog is a big issue. It sounds unlikely that the dog is incredibly well behaved. Any damage caused by the dog gets charged to you and associated with your account. No

I’d love to go solo and that might be what I will need to do since I already have the money. If I cede it to her, getting her to pay my cost + the pet fee will probably send her over the edge. I also worry about this because it is all on my cc and what if any damage occurs? It’s on me.

I’ve known her since we were in 6th grade. We are mid 40s now.

Ugh, I hate awkward money situations.

She's an old friend. A single mom. She doesn't have a lot of money. I'd go and just shrug it off - stuff happens, it's not a big deal in the scheme of things. Maybe offer to watch the kids one afternoon while she gets a massage. It is disappointing, but again, perspective.

+1 extend some grace. It’s tough being a single mother.

That’s not grace.

Agree. It’s being a pushover.

Seems like there is still time to come up with alternatives.

It's pretty obvious this was the plan all along. "Oops sister not available to take 2 kids and a dog Memorial Day weekend for 4 days!" The sister never agreed to this plan in the first place, because it's not likely an emergency came up 7 weeks in advance.

I just stayed in an air b&b where a dog had chewed the molding off of a door frame. It looked awful. And there was still dog hair in many spots even after cleaning. It was gross. Studiously avoiding pet-friendly rentals from now on!

I am a single parent and travel with my kid and occasionally my dogs + friends. When she was a toddler I would bring a babysitter and pay for two bedrooms, my friends would pay for their bedrooms, and I would sleep on couch. Now with an older kid and no nanny, I pay for one room and sleep on couch. If I were your friend, I would want to sleep on the couch, give my kids the room, and you get the other room. My dogs are well-behaved and typically the places that take them are cheaper and not on the beach.

Right, and OP’s friend is decidedly not you. Not sure your point

The kids are bad enough but, unless I knew it was perfectly behaved, the dog would be a non-starter.
