Yet they let a Gold Star Father get arrested. Hypocrites.

Take it up with the Speaker.

Speaker has NOTHING to do with filing criminal charges. That is up to Biden appointed US Attorney for DC.

Were criminal charges filed, or was he just removed? Genuine question.

He was charged with a misdemeanor.

So he was almost immediately released on his own recognizance, and will, at most, pay a small fine and do some community service. But most likely be deferred and face no real consequences unless he gets arrested again? That seems reasonable.

Look, I’d be furious if I lost a kid too. But if I couldn’t control myself enough to stay within the bounds of the law during the SOTU, I’d decline attendance. Having a tragedy happen doesn’t insulate you from legal responsibility for your actions. If it’s okay for him to heckle the SOTU, what other laws can he break? Would his grief be an acceptable excuse if he was the guy who was arrested at the Capital a couple days ago for trying to bring in a hammer into the building and then attacking capital police who caught it at screening? If he had made it in and attacked a staffer for a member of the House or Senate on Armed Services? If he had attacked a member of the House or Senate (either party)? If it had been a gun? If he had shot someone?

Where do you draw the line as to what laws Gold Star families can beak due to grief?

Also— I think any sane and normal person know that the Architect of the Capital didn’t make the real time call to arrest this guy. (neither did Biden or Mike Jordan, who were on live TV). And that if POTUS had real power over the actions of Capital Police 1/6 would have ended very differently. Speaking of which, I also understand why Capital Police might be jumpy about out of control members of the public (which this guy was— unless you are saying his reaction was staged, which would mean Rs are using Gold Star family members as props)— especially with POTUS in attendance. They have also suffered a collective trauma, including deaths of their fellow officers.

He did it on purpose to call attention to the US Marines and Military members killed at Abbey Gate. The men and women Biden ignores, and America ignores.

He didn’t say anything disrespectful about Biden or America. He is a good father who has lost 2 sons and wanted America and Biden to remember Abbey Gate and our fallen. He did a great job, and I know he accomplished what he set out to do because dcum is talking about Abbey Gate.

Shouting and disrupting the State of the Union is disrespectful.

It says you are not following tos and taking this thread off topic repeatedly, on purpose.

Nope. Who can break laws and what laws can be broken using grief as an excuse is the entire point of this thread.

A Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday evening near the White House and accused of revving his vehicle’s engine amid a crowd of demonstrators gathered ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union address.

Authorities have not ascribed a possible motive, but during a D.C. Superior Court hearing Friday, officials unsealed an arrest affidavit alleging that 18-year-old Brandon G. Allen “proceeded to rev his … engine causing mass hysteria.”

The incident occurred during a night of demonstrations leading up and during Biden’s address at the U.S. Capitol. Dozens of protesters blocked Pennsylvania Avenue, and at one point spread a banner across an intersection.

About two dozen demonstrators wearing black T-shirts that read “Biden’s legacy = genocide” locked arms and held hands to form a chain to briefly block traffic. A second group of demonstrators sat down across Pennsylvania Avenue and unfurled a large green and white flag.

The protesters, wearing shirts with the slogan “Biden Legacy = Genocide,” unfurled a large Palestinian flag across Pennsylvania Avenue, and formed a human barricade by sitting in the road to block traffic. The demonstrations were large enough to force Biden’s motorcade to take an alternate route from the White House to the Capitol, CNN reported. The pool traveling with the president said he took “the long way” to the Capitol, avoiding a large group of demonstrators just blocks away from the building. Activists could be heard outside as reporters loaded up into vans to head to the Capitol.

“We forced the president to reroute and arrive late to give his speech to the country,” Jay Saper, an organizer with the group Jewish Voice for Peace, told Rolling Stone. “We know that right now the majority of Americans want a full, permanent, lasting ceasefire […] It’s important for our elected officials to actually answer to the people, as opposed to answering to a [foreign] government that’s actively carrying out genocide by continuing to send and pledge money and weapons to them,” they added.

We are outraged, we are heartbroken, and we are demanding that President Biden stop funding and arming Israel’s genocide of Palestinians,” Elena Stein of Jewish Voice for Peace, which helped organize the protest, told Rolling Stone.

Hmmmm. The outraged and heartbroken protesters who blocked traffic and caused Biden to be late for the State of the Union address were not arrested.

Isn’t blocking traffic and roads illegal? Delaying the President’s address to the nation on purpose is just fine, right?

Those protesters broke laws and were not arrested.

The driver revving his engine (gtfo of the road, protesters breaking-the-law) was arrested. Is revving your engine while selfish douchebags block the road illegal? Apparently yes- but blocking multiple roads at an intersection to delay the president is just peachy.

So is blocking roads to purposely stop the President from giving the SOTU address.

But golly gee willickers, those people were NOT arrested!

If the police are arrested a man who shouted during the state of the union and a man who revved his engine near protesters blocking the road, but didn’t arrest the protesters blocking the road, I agree. Either arrest all protesters or none. Only arresting certain protesters is fascist.

There are rules of decorum OP. No one gets a free pass. You MAGAs need to learn how to behave.

Let’s think back to a few years ago in cities all around this country. We were told that riots were understandable b/c of the pain in the various communities. In fact, very prominent individuals raised money to ensure protesters were set free.

I think what he did was wrong and I wish that decorum, in all areas of politics and all communities, is the expectation.

Go to law school.

Members of Congress don’t get arrested in the House Chamber because of the Speech and Debate Caluse of the Constitution. Which MYTG, who also didn’t get arrested, should be grateful for.

Protestors outside were in a first amendment “public streets and sidewalks” zone.

He broke the law. His supporters say he did so intentionally and to score political points. Laws have consequences. Members of Congress and protestors outside were not breaking the law.

And the “party of law and order” seems awfully upset bout Capitol Police enforcing law and order.

That’s a DC specific question unless they were on federal property. Is it illegal to block traffic in DC?

No only arresting certain protestors says that SCOTUS has a very long line of cases outlining the time, place and manner in which protesting is a protected activity. Even on pubic property, it’s not all just a free for all of protest however, wherever and in whatever manner you want.

Plus, in both instances, the protests were against Biden, so I’m not sure what your point is.

Doing it during the SOTU as someone’s (whose, BTW?) invited guests, absolutely is. The father may or may not have been playing politics. But a politician invited the father, because members of the public can’t just wander in during the SOTU. And that person was absolutely playing politics. At best, the father knew he would be used as a political prop.

Try again.

Freedom of Speech which by the way you idiot Trumpies think you wil have after Trump wins sure morons.

Those protesters as much as I hate them have freedom of speech.

The car was revving like it was going to run people over that is illegal the way it happened.

State of Union guy is an ass and should have been arrested for sure

[b]DP... why should we ONLY care about the death of this one guy in Afghanistan and nobody else?

It's pure politicization that you think the discussion needs to be hyperconstrained to this and this only at the expense of everything else. And, we keep bringing up mass shootings because those issues have been around for much much longer and responsible for many many more deaths and have not been addressed or answered in any way, shape or form. So if you want to bring up Nikoui how about YOU take a number and get in line and wait till our issues have been addressed.

DP
"One guy?" There were 13 men and women who died at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan. Their photos have been posted multiple times in this thread, including in the history chain of the post you responded to.
Yet you completely forgot about TWELVE of them? Way to prove the gold star father's point.
