Is it true plain oatmeal, steel cut or otherwise, is not actually a healthy breakfast?

I seriously doubt the OP is running a marathon after her carb loading.

I do work out in the morning, 4 to 5 times a week. Typically a half an hour of running or treadmill.

Please explain what do you mean by carb loading and avoiding it. Do you mean you should only eat so many grams of carbs per day or just be especially aware of carbs in the morning? The oatmeal alone is 44g, so that is concerning? Plus whatever carbs the banana and splash of 2% milk has. How many grams of carbs is ideal in the morning?

DP: Carbs are the body's fuel. You literally need carbs to function.

Wrong! The idea that carbs are supposed to be part of our diet comes from the companies that make money selling us carbs. Please do a little research on how the food pyramid was constructed and see who benefited from it.
Look at some old pictures of people on the beach before carbs became a normal part of our diet. You won't find a single 300 lb person

Just want to put out there that there is one difference between rolled plain oats and instant plain oats - how much they are ground up to make them cook faster. Stop with the packets a s just buy regular oats. Can portion them out for traveling with them to microwave later.

Baked oatmeal with milk and eggs and no sugar is easy satisfying and filling.

carbs are not the problem. half the world lives on carbs and have always eaten carbs. Look at all the countries that eat a ton of rice, pasta/noodles and other bread/grain products.

Bread, biscuits, oatmeal, potatoes, corn, rice, pasta, wheat have been staples of the human diet for centuries…long long before the obesity epidemic. “Carbs” aren’t the problem.

Go ahead and look up the countries with the highest rates of obesity. You will see that a majority of their diet is made up of carbs

I'm pretty sure a lot of those people on the beach had had oatmeal for breakfast. (Though maybe a smaller portion)

There is no question that sugar and carbs like bread, pasta, rice, oats, starchy vegetables spike blood sugar and drive hangry overeating and insulin resistance/metabolic disorder.

People who eat a diet high in fats, moderate in proteins and low in carbs - little to no sugar, grains, starchy vegetables control their blood sugar and have energy and mental clarity without the rollercoaster of mood and constant hunger.

I eat "carbs" regularly, including oatmeal, and have maintained a normal body weight for years. "Carbs" are not the cause of the obesity problem in the US.

I'm pretty sure oatmeal is not what's making so many people fat.

What a bunch of idiots. The reason Americans are fat and unhealthy is not due to eating carbs, it’s the fact that roughly 70% of our diet is ultra-processed garbage that should not even be considered food.

Splitting hairs about fats vs protein vs carbs is stupid. Just don’t eat junk. We all KNOW what the junk is, and it’s not the effing oatmeal…

Humans started farming around 12,000 years ago. PP is correct; if you look at photos of pre-historic hunger/gatherers hanging out at the beach, you’ll see that they are all under 300lbs.
