This is why ivy kids and parents learn to be quiet - except with those who are secure in themselves.

I told nobody. Word spreads very fast!

If you think of yourself as a gifted parent or an Ivy parent then you ARE the problem. We all avoid the lady in our circle who believes that her children are the most successful because she aced parenting and the rest of us failed

Either one is an ivy parent or isn't. Being an ivy parent isn't a crime who need to be avoided like a criminal. This is many stay quiet.

Tonight Master Yoda, your grammar is fail you.

Which hooks are fair?

ECs are merit. Yes, sports too. You work your butt off. Legacy and race are not - you just happen to be born into it.

My older kid does attend an Ivy, so I saw other people hiding their thoughts when we told them. Some people probably thought he didn’t deserve to get in.

If he was legacy and you - big donors, yes, it’s likely he didn’t deserve to get in.

Is he doing well there? If so, then f&$@ them!

This is why I am not an hyps or whatever parent. Just explaining why hyps parents stay quiet. If PP ever wondered why his or her circle includes many ged grads but no hyps parents, the latter stay quiet cuz they don't need PP's validation.

He’s not lacking in ability, it’s mental health. But I have to remind myself to love the kid I have, not the one I thought I would have.

Always a healthy situation when a parent has to be reminded to love their kid.

It’s an expression.

No - I know a particular college isn’t end all be all and it’s all about making the most of where you end and I hope everyone does well.

I am quoting myself but I also know it’s a crapshoot so I am not jealous. I used to interview for my Ivy alma mater and I literally stopped after so many kids I interviewed didn’t get in. The straw that broke the camel’s back was - I interviewed a URM with a disability- and in my interview report I wrote: worked as college admissions counselor and I also interviewed for you for X numbers of years and this is the best candidate I have met, etc. and even she got waitlisted and I literally said I’m done wasting my time with this. But at least I’ve known since my kids were born that it’s a total crapshoot now.

Lol “fit” is code for second tier

Do you get the two transcripts and compare them?

Mom here. I myself got into HYPSM back in the day, and got some interesting reactions. A close high school friend ghosted me. Friends/acquaintances of my parents grilled me on how their kids could get in too. Local newspaper did a profile on me.

This is why people who go to these schools will say "I go to school in Boston..."

Unless you grew up in the expensive Boston suburbs where a lot of Harvard graduates end up living. Nobody cares. Do you try to trick them by saying Boston where there are no Ivies?

That's...kind of what the conversation is about?

(It's actually a much more interesting conversation than simply pointing at people and declaring, "first tier," "second tier," etc., but anyway, I hope your contribution made you feel good. May the road rise up to meet you, etc.)
