Why do people think it’s ok to not wear a mask on a flight when they are clearly sick?

Because masks are hot and uncomfortable. What's not to get?

Then do not fly when sick, if you cannot wear a mask. Have a little compassion and concern for others around you. Really not that difficult to do or understand.

I don't get it. If you're worried about getting sick, why don't you wear an N95 respirator? Why do you care what other people do?

Because despite screeching about people who don’t mask being selfish, they are the ones who want to control everyone else to make their lives easier. It’s the height of selfishness.

No we already wear a quality mask and do everything possible to protect ourselves and our families

I do wear a KN95 or N95 on planes. However, I would be better protected if everyone did and the air was properly filtered. You are sitting in a tiny plane with 200+ people where everyone is sitting packed in next to others (3-5 in a row together)---tight quarters with crappy air filtration. Why do you feel it's so important to NOT mask when you are visibly ill? How can you go thru life being so self centered and not caring a bit about others around you?

So you don't trust N95s. Got it.

Apparently you are not smart enough to understand simple science. Masks work. However, if everyone around you is maskless, then there is a chance you can still get covid. So masks work better the more people who are wearing them. Simple to understand.

N95, not N100. Nothing's foolproof. One N95 against a plane full of unfiltered exhale is not a good bet. Think, pp.

Mask mandates never worked on airplanes for the simple reason that people could take them on and off to eat or drink, when they used the bathroom etc. Any time you are in a crowd of people, you are at risk of everything from covid to flu to a simple cold. If you want to protect yourself, wear your own well fitted N95 or choose not to fly.

Actually, lots of Asian people did and I started wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces in the DC area when we moved here; it was the only way I didn't stay constantly sick. It just wasn't political then and people would just stare at me and then go about their business.

Right. Nobody wore masks here prior to covid. And since we have to be best, that has to be best, right?

Our family masks in airport and on planes. Felt much better about the lady hacking up a lung next to me trying to cough into the window and not on me because I was masked from Fort Lauderdale to DCA over the break. TBH, I was surprised, and horrified, that she wasn't masking.

FWIW, all the flight attendants on the plane were masking - Jet Blue

I have no anxiety about your stupidity, PP. None. You are easy to identify, and will be easy to avoid.

You sure about that? According to you maskless people are everywhere especially sick ones. You can't avoid them. Stay home is your only solution.

I just flew with COVID. I wore a mask. Felt bad doing it but did not really have an option.

That is why I always bring masks with me and always wear them on airplanes and packed places. Happened to me on a flight back from LA. I called the guy out and said "you are visibly sick, why fly and if so why not wear a mask?" He replied with something along the lines of why did he have to wait 5 days to fly home? I then gave him an extra mask I had in a sealed bag and put my own mask on. He actually put it on and wore it, but took it off to eat. I was in business class and the flight was totally full, so I couldn't switch. When I went up to use the bathroom a flight attendant thanked me.

I ended up not getting sick, but was pretty pissed off.

My husband flies regularly for work. He still wears a mask in the busy parts of the airport and wears it until the planes takes off or no one is near his seat (he usually flies business), then he takes it off until landing, unless he uses the loo or someone close to him is visibly sick. He hasn't caught Covid on a plane, but caught some nasty respiratory thing in South America that required scans and antibiotics.
