Why do people think it’s ok to not wear a mask on a flight when they are clearly sick?

Wearing a mask when you are sick is the worst. That’s why I never do. I especially hate sneezing or coughing in a mask. If you are concerned about catching a virus, YOU should wear a mask.

I think this has been the key all along. I had a medically fragile child. I never could rely on others to protect him.

Yes, but wouldn't it have been nice if others were willing to do something so simple as wear a mask to help keep these medically fragile people safe. Not that difficult to wear a mask while at grocery store or target for 20 mins. It would protect yourself, the workers, the customers, and ultimately everyone who is there who might have a medically fragile person in their lives.

Those people should wear a mask to protect that person in their lives. Masks do work, right?

Even if you did get everyone to mask, you would move on to not enough masks (two is better than one) or not wearing them correctly. That's how we know you have a medical anxiety.

Science shows that masks work better if everyone wears them. I do wear them whenever in an inside setting with large crowds, grocery stores, etc. I do dine out and enjoy life. But I take precautions that are easy to do.

Also, wanting to not get long covid or any effects from multiple covid infections is not medical anxiety. I've seen what one case of covid, prevax did to my otherwise very healthy teen. And their case was only moderate and has improved over time. But they still have issues that are obviously caused by covid infection. So yeah, I'd prefer not to do permanent damage to myself or my family if we can avoid it thru simple actions.

This is really unfair to those who can’t mask, like infants and toddlers under 2. They’re not choosing to travel and are at high risk for hospitalization from respiratory illnesses like RSV. It sucks that selfish people are unwilling to inconvenience themselves in any way for the good of society.

Nobody wore masks in public prior to 2020 and we all survived. If it bothers you, wear your own mask.

Maybe they shouldn’t be traveling then. You should call their parents selfish for making them travel.

Actually, lots of Asian people did and I started wearing a mask in crowded indoor spaces in the DC area when we moved here; it was the only way I didn't stay constantly sick. It just wasn't political then and people would just stare at me and then go about their business.

I always feel so sorry for kids under 4 or so who are traveling, they mostly look miserable and will definitely end up sick.

Their germ ridden classmates are more likely to make them sick than a Radom stranger on a plane.

Which is the even more reason not to have them on a plane! And then there are the ear pressure changes they can't really understand. Makes no sense for kids under 4 to fly, adults need to come to them.

That’s a ridiculous thing to say. When a relative dies, gets married, etc. then you travel to them. Beyond that, children are allowed to exist in society. An unmasked adult with COVID selfishly exposing a plane full of people is in the wrong, not the family flying with their child.

LOL. In that those who died of airborne diseases are not here posting, yes.

Facile. Unimpressive argument.
