I don’t know why freedom to learn about another religion is considered crass, but anyone who supports freedom and self-determination as a human right (as the UN does) is not crass.

You can change your own religion, but you can't change others.

Foisting your religion on others - especially vulnerable people - is unethical.

Mind your own culture/beliefs.

You are closed minded and insular. You don’t make decisions for anyone but yourself. You are proudly against basic human rights, weird.

You misunderstand basic human rights. They are for an individual to make choices for themselves. They don't give you the right to convert others.

Christians don’t convert people to Christianity. God does. Christians can’t make people believe in God if they don’t want to believe in God.

God doesn't exist so "he" doesn't really do anything.

Missionaries use various techniques to convert people to their religion. Mormons go door to door. Other missionaries target more vulnerable populations. Some even use bribes like christmas boxes.

I feel very, very sorry for you PP. In m sincerity, I hope the Holy Spirit continues to nag at you and that you will come to see the foolishness of your ways.

Can you show your source that ahows God doesn’t exist? I think we all would appreciate your source on that topic. Including links.

Christian mission trips provide birth control to local women who wait for hours to get their tubes tied. Many already have 6-8 or more children and are desperate.

Why can't the missionaries provide that support without overt religion?

They can't just feel good about helping others? They have to have this ulterior motive to make it worthwhile?

It’s not an ulterior motive. It’s done in the name of Jesus Christ.

Practicing their belief by attempting to eradicate other people’s beliefs?

No. That is not worth my limited tolerance. It’s evil

This x1000000

If you want to practice your beliefs, privately, for yourself, I have all the respect on the world. Missionaries and proselytizing is profoundly hateful and violent to communities.

+1

Disgusting. Proselytizing should be outlawed. At least with vulnerable people.

How many times have you posted the same words or a variant on “disgusting,” “crass,” or “vile” on this short thread? You sound like a sock puppet.

That was my first post on this thread.

But I'll say it again and again. Proselytizing vulnerable people is unethical. Truly disgusting.

It is. That’s why Christians do not proselytize.

Where have you personally witnessed proselytizing by any religious group?

Regularly, at family events. Evangelicals who can't shut TF up about accepting Jesus.

Who outside of your family has attempted to convert you to Christianity?

Why do you associate with your family if they don’t respect your boundaries?

I do try to limit my time, but unfortunately I can't totally avoid them.

Anyway, many Christians proselytize. Stop gaslighting.

Right - that is the ulterior motive. They aren't there just to provide medical care.

It's impossible to prove a negative. Perhaps you can prove that he does exist. Well, you can't because he doesn't, but you can try.

Science requires proof, religious belief requires faith. Scientists don't try to prove or disprove God's existence because they know there isn't an experiment that can ever detect God.

You feel sorry for me for recognizing reality? I'm good, thanks.

Christians proselytize. And people will judge them for that.

It's unethical to proselytize to vulnerable people.

So you only have experiences with your family, but they haven’t forced you to convert?

And you have no examples of anyone outside your family proselytizing you, but you know it happens? Where have you seen it happen and why haven’t you converted?

No, it’s the most populous religion on earth.

I brought this up before xmas - the shoebox campaign is a mission trip, set up to try and trick kids into indoctrination.

"Come get a little present!"
"Not so quick, gotta listen to our religious spiel first..."

Obnoxious and sad. If it was truly about helping people, you would build schools/hospitals/offer gifts and food without an expectation of reciprocity. Unfortunately it's treated as a transaction, with christians trying to manipulate poor vulnerable folks.

Moving goalposts...

Christians proselytize. Mormons proselytize. Evangelicals proselytize. Missionaries proselytize.

Stop pretending like it doesn't happen.

Just because a lot of people believe it doesn't make it real.
