What are we supposed to do?

PRESS CHARGES.

On the instagram post, so many neighbors were saying similar stories or worse (he masterbated in front of my son, etc) but NO ONE PRESSED CHARGES.

This man put a woman in the hospital and masterbated in front of 2 yr olds. This was not his first offense. He was charged with MISDEMEANORS. Let that sink in. Sexual abuse of a child and beating someone so badly they are hospitalized are misdemeanors in DC. It’s not that people don’t report crime, it’s that the officials of this city have decided it doesn’t care.

Shame on any of you who vote for these people again.

Your consistent misspelling of the word is revaaling how often you're posting. That or every hysteric also doesn't understand how bodies work...noticing a pattern.

If you're going to make misspellings the priority here, may I suggest you review your own post?

The difference now is the victims and circumstances. Preschool teachers attacked in front of their kids. So sad.

This new DC is full of crime, thanks to Mayor Bowser.

I lived there from 2005 (and had an open air drug market when I arrived - woman living alone) until 2014, this is a terrible incident, but not indicative of what happens there/near there even back in 2005. These 'crime is everywhere' harpies are nuts. Scared to leave their houses, thinking eveything is ridled with crime and criminals, why not move to Kansas - oh, right the Opiods and meth...I guess nowhere is safe. Maybe a bunker???

You left in 2014 so have no idea how much worse things have gotten. Typical DCUM poster with your head up your own ass.

Lol, that PP probably moved to Brambleton in 2014 but wants to tell everyone that the current crime issue in DC is overblown.

At our school today, there was a man who let himself onto the playground to just watch children. This was a 40-50 year old man, not an elderly guy who isn't aware of policy and norms.

No fence? No gate?

The whole school is fenced and gated. The gates are not locked, buy they are closed. He opened it and let himself in to just sit in the playground.

Sorry, but there is no rehab for someone with a rap sheet like his and who is regularly and routinely engaging in sexually concerning behaviors toward women. St. Elizabeth's is where he needs to go and to stay.

But they are finding him supports.

Who is paying for the medical bills of the victims?

There’s a go fund me. I hope all of the people who are “working” to get Russell “help” for his “mental health” are also paying to resolve the consequences of his actions.

A go fund me for what? His sexual offender therapy? What has happened to society that we are handling with kid gloves a guy who is a sexual predator.

The go fund me is to pay for the victims bills.

Prosecutors decide if charges will be filed. Not individual citizens. What we can do is report crime and criminal behavior. The individuals did that. Repeatedly.

You clearly haven't been reading the instagram posted in this thread where several neighbors claim they had experience with him (including his masterbating in front of them) and how they had decided not to press charges. So it appears they were offered that option. I'm just taking those people at their word.

Yes, I get it and also take those people at their word. My point is that the individuals are being dissuaded when the legal system from police to prosecutors to courts have the responsibility for following through after reports are made.

So in DC you're not a sex offender after masterbating in front of toddlers so long as you are mentally ill and/or on drugs?

We have the same question about the naked guy who is often to be found in the middle of the road outside PIW

As long as you masturbate in front of kids, you are golden. Proof of mental health problems that absolve all your actions. This is insane!

Lady, I too moved here in 2005 and I am still here... and I'm a reporter who talks to neighbors and cops often. 2012/2013/2014 were a golden era of low crime. It is SO MUCH worse. Even the cops are scared. Look up the stats on violent crime, homicides and carjackings. We are not exaggerating.

The idiotic crime policies didn’t start until 2020. The 2014 person is just proving the point that it wasn’t like this until this restorative justice crap.

Grandma who moved away in 2014 mag as well be reminiscing on the roaring 20s.

Why is it so hard to just arrest a criminal and put them away for a long time? It’s so simple and actually works. You have to be extremely low IQ or mentally ill yourself to not understand this simple concept.

Have you considered just having them sit down with the victim and come to a meeting of the minds instead? Kumbaya

I know, right? Promoting the carceral state is a direct form of white supremacy and we know than that now.

"She said she yelled at the man, who then turned and walked toward her, despite her threats to call police.

“Call them — they won’t do anything,” the man replied, "

Shameful.
