Some areas in WV feel pretty similar, but the school options can vary a bit. I’ve been trying to understand the differences myself, especially when looking into good schools for my kid. I came across a list of the best elementary schools in West Virginia that helped me get a clearer picture: https://moonpreneur.com/school/e/wv/.

But I’d still love to hear from people who actually live in Jefferson—does it really feel that different from the rest of WV?”

We have a second home in Jeff County and spend a lot of time there. It’s different from the rest of the state in that it’s wealthier and more moderate politically but it’s also a whole different world than the DMV. The difference is striking considering how close it is.

No if course not

WV is literally one of the whitest states in the country.

So no, not part of the DMV. No soul.

When was this coined? DC Native and did not ever hear until maybe 5-10 years ago. I am in my 40s.

I am from actual DC, so I didn't really even know the difference between MD and VA until I went to UVa.

Sorry not sorry.

You were just out of the loop, Dear.
Fellow DC native, 4 generations, and I've known of the DMV since the 90s.
Go-Go bands always referenced the DMV in songs and it wasn't just 5-10 years ago LMAO

NP: Well "Dear", born and raised in Montgomery County, went to HS in DC, went to College Park for college. Children born at G'Town. I've been around for 56 years so yeah, I am a NATIVE. It was never ever called DMV ever. That is actually Dept of Motor Vehicles. It wasn't until the last few years on DCUM did I start to see this reference and at first I really did think they were referencing motor vehicles. It was always called "the DC area"

Are you a black or white Native? It matters.

Lenape. Check mate.

Yep, same here.

Can you watch WTTG, WRC in W Va?

I don’t consider Baltimore part of the DMV. It also happens to be a different tv market.

Would agree. I think there are small parts of WV that might be considered tangentially related; think Harper’s ferry for example. Small towns across the river that aren’t close to anything in WV.

It has a very rural feel. Very.
