WV is literally one of the whitest states in the country.

So no, not part of the DMV. No soul.

When was this coined? DC Native and did not ever hear until maybe 5-10 years ago. I am in my 40s.

I am from actual DC, so I didn't really even know the difference between MD and VA until I went to UVa.

Sorry not sorry.

You were just out of the loop, Dear.
Fellow DC native, 4 generations, and I've known of the DMV since the 90s.
Go-Go bands always referenced the DMV in songs and it wasn't just 5-10 years ago LMAO

There are WV residents who commute to jobs in the DMV area, including DC. This has been true since I was growing up in a far western VA exurb that is still considered somewhat uncommutable to DC, but had vanpools even back then.

Does this qualify a place as part of the DMV? That's up to interpretation. The line has to be drawn somewhere!

No it is not classified as part of DMV.

My husband is a contractor for a federal employer in West Virginia, and those employees get DC pay. (Mostly to prevent them from leaving I think.)

I’m from DC and I now live in WV. So, as a SME on this: no, WV is not part of the DMV.

Jefferson County WV is part of the DC area.

I believe this award-winning journalism focused on a rural Appalachian town in W.Va

I did. No one mentioned "Jefferson County WV is part of the DC area" until the ^PP.

No. That the USG has expanded it to include locality pay in the region doesn’t make it so.

At some point you are far enough from the geographic center that it isn’t the same place. Jefferson County is further from downtown DC than Baltimore. It is a different region but happens to have individuals who do make the commute to work for the government in Reston or closer in.

My God we’ve been over this already. I’ve posted a link.

Here’s a excerpt:

“The Washington metropolitan area, also sometimes referred to as the National Capital Region or colloquially as the DMV (named after District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia), is the metropolitan area containing Washington, D.C., the federal capital of the United States. The metropolitan area includes all of Washington, D.C. and parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. It is part of the larger Washington–Baltimore combined statistical area.”

The West Virginia part is Jefferson County.

Sorry folks, as Thanos famously said, “Dread it? Run from it? Destiny arrives all the same, and now it's here.”

Jefferson County is like the red-headed step child of WV.
