Why are people in this region left lane campers?

You are sticking to the right lane, right?

Why? The right lane is often going 10-20 below the speed limit, so of course I will be in the left lane.

This does not happen unless traffic is very heavy, which is not the situation we’re discussing at all.

Where is this mythical highway in the DMV with traffic so light that you can travel in the right lane, easily pass in the left and then shift back into the right? Every time I've been on the beltway, you'd end up weaving in and of traffic like a nut (or an MD driver)

Exhibit A for the prize winner of the DMV for ahole driving. Get.the.hell.out.of.the.way.

Then left lane is not for driving, idiot. Pass, get over. Why is it that countries like Germany and Japan can understand this basic concept? I've driven there and it is light years better than the idiocy we have here.

+1. I guess I only drive at rush hour, but the right and center lanes are usually super slow from people constantly merging on and off the freeway.

Those countries will also quickly impound your car for speeding. So reckless nuts like you can't really have it both ways, can ya?

In the meantime, I will happily stay in America and enjoy a nice podcast while traveling at the lawful speed limit.

This right here is why OP. So many idiots that think like this. This person has never had an independent thought in their life.

I like to arrive at my destination alive. Raging incels like you should not endanger other drivers with their reckless road rage.

You are behaving way more emotionally than the PP. Just stay right, pass left, and stop trying to play highway vigilante. You’re going to get someone killed by ignoring the rules of the road.

Nope. Switching to the right lane would slow me down 10-20 mph, just so you can aggressively tailgate the car in front of me.

Please see a therapist to get your road rage under control before someone gets killed.

The only one enraging people, and increasing the risk of violence are hall monitors like you. I move over and let the idiots drive as fast as they want. My life is more important than to play road block. They get theirs in the end. I saw some idiot get pulled over just a few minutes ago. The cops are out today!

Please don't text and drive on the freeway

duh. I'm home now

Lol, the German autobahn has tons of areas with no speed restrictions, clown.

Once you get off the east coast a lot of the US is like this as well. I drove across the country and once you pass the Mississippi River it's amazing the difference in driving habits. People only use the left lane to pass. And they are going insanely fast. Until you hit CA then all bets are off. They're as bad as east coast drivers.

On the beltway, it's hard to not be actively passing in the left lane. Any trooper pulling anyone over on 495, 66, 95, or 395 is looking for a pretext for a stop

Actively passing means passing. If you are going the same speed as the car in the next lane you are not passing and need to get out of the left lane.

The left lane is almost always 'actively passing.' People who drive faster filter left. 495 isn't a two lane rural road where the left lane can just sit empty

If people are passing you on the right then you are not actively passing.

If it takes you more than a few seconds to pass you are not actively passing.

Seems like people in VA are just never taught how to pass on the highway. They don’t understand the concept.

If you do not move over to the right lane immediately after passing, but instead stay in the left lane so you can "pass" the next car, you are simply speeding.

You don't understand the concept.

Every highway when it's not rush hour?

I have a reverse commute out on 66 every morning and, for 3 of 5 days/week, traffic is light enough to change lanes for most of the route. That's technically during rush hour. The other 2 days/week are more stop & go, but there are still some stretches when you can pass people.

You're doing it wrong.

No, the right lane is the default lane. You start there. If you need to pass someone, you do it quickly, and then move back over.

You were really never taught this? Where did you learn to drive?

The funny thing is how you invoke a traffic rule (left lane passing) just so that you can break even more traffic rules yourself (reckless felony speeding). I will just go the speed limit and do my part to keep ALL of us safe.

But please do go see a therapist about that incel road rage.

No one is talking about reckless felony speeding. Are you having trouble following the conversation?

Speeding (to some extent) is de facto OK. Parking in the left lane is not. You live in the world with other people so stop being a dick. You shouldn't be driving if you are incapable of changing your speed to match highway conditions. Plus, playing highway vigilante is going to get someone killed.

-happily married and get properly f-ed on the regular, thanks

As long as you aren't playing highway vigilante and intentionally impeding the flow of traffic you can go as slow as you want in the right lane.

No, we have too many people either totally oblivious to their surroundings OR playing highway vigilante and trying to control all of the cars around them.

I beep at them. Just lay on your horn. They want to make my life bad, I can reciprocate. They know to move over. It’s the law. Me speeding is not your law to enforce. You’re not a policeman.

So it’s your law to enforce someone moving mover, but not your speeding. If you’re behind me, I’m brake checking you
