| My mother told me a boy classmate had a chemistry set and put the tubes in his overall front pocket and it exploded. This was in Raleigh in the early 1950s. |

Boating accidents freak me out. I came very, very close to getting run over by a boat and/or my kid going overboard in a boat collision. Only saved by my incredibly cool-headed friend’s brother driving the boat. My friend and I had jumped off the stopped boat to swim behind it. DH and son still on the boat with friend’s brother. I look up and see a motorboat speeding at full throttle towards our boat. Brothet could not move our boat because we were feet away from the propellors behind it. He somehow screamed and threw waterskis loud and fast enough at the other boat that they slowed down enough to just bump ours. Thank god I was in a life jacket or I might have drowned from shock making me unable to swim. |

| Aunt and uncle had just retired. They were driving around a sharp curve in the road in their convertible (up north where there are mountains), another car swerved into them and they went off the road and down the mountain. Killed instantly. I found it poignant knowing that the two of them died together driving off into the sunset basically. |
| This happened behind my mom's house. A toddler ran out onto a busy road and was ran over. The car driver got out in tears thinking they'd hit a dog, but instead they'd killed a baby. He was really, really upset and kept vomiting. |
| A kid from my church was messing around swimming in one of those culverts on the side of the road and drowned. This was in MD. |

My doctor told me that a patient of hers had come in for a visit and received a clean diagnosis regarding her cancer after multiple rounds of chemo. On the patients way out of the medical faculty parking lot, another car ran a stop sign and killed her.
This was years ago and has always stuck with me. |
Np, agreed that it has a very ‘Final Destination’ vibe about it. |
| I know three young men (20s), two of which were twin brothers, who recently died in a car accident; hit by a drunk driver. All three were childhood best friends. |
| So many of these are things that fueled CPSC-driven regulations and are now safety features or best practices... |
My friend’s BIL died of the same thing in his 30s. Ingrown toenail. Family friend went out to have a smoke on Christmas Eve. Didn’t know there was a small retaining wall. Fell just right or wrong, hit his head. Died on the spot. Mid 40s male. Also Natasha Richardson! |
