They are not down. Very few have been posted. Just wait. You'll see. The matriculations will be stronger than the other Catholics, Sidwell (Quaker), even Bullis (no religious affiliation/roots) which had an unusually strong year this particular year.

I love your can do attitude. Unfortunately, it's just not true. Better luck next year! I'm sure it will be great.

OK of the 28 students listed so far, 9 are going to top 25 universities. Of those 9, five are international (China), three are white, and one is African American.

If we only look at top 20 universities, there are only 6 of the 28 attending them, and 5 are from China and 1 is African American.

I see a pattern.

GC Honors promoter - what sayeth ye?

It's pretty underwhelming this year. If you look at public schools in the area like Churchill or Whitman, they have better schools than Prep. The private school education isn't for every kid.

Prep will have same schools as Churchill. They will be around 25 percent at top 20 schools. I believe Stone Ridge does as well. Using the data from Bethesda magazine, last year only 7 percent of the Churchill class of 22 matriculated to top 20 universities. So private schools win on a per capita basis. Just because a huge public school has more admits to top 20 schools doesn’t mean anything when comparing it to schools with less than a quarter of their class size. Math is funny like that.

That is true. However, keep in mind these are public schools we’re comparing. Public schools don’t have any admissions process, so not every kid is going to have the same incentive to try in school (since their parents aren’t paying). Parents send their kids to Prep for the school’s reputation.

You just proved the point that private schools are better than public schools as a motivating factor. I prefer to surround my kid with other equally motivated kids, not a bunch of kids trying to coast through doing the least possible work. This is just one of the many reasons private schools are preferable for families who want kids to excel.

Why is the drop off between the Chinese students at Prep and the US so significant?
Are they taking significantly harder classes at Prep?

The Chinese students are all going top 20. The US students are going to schools >100. (except so far for 2 Boston College sports recruits and 1 Princeton sports recruit).

It's really striking. Is it class rigor as well as grades?

More in: Princeton, (another)Johns Hopkins, Tulane, Northwestern.. The list just gets stronger and stronger...

Are you being purposefully obtuse?
Princeton: lacrosse commit
Johns Hopkins: Chinese kids x 2
Northwestern: Chinese kid

Most kids are going to Ole Miss, Trinity, Gettysburg, etc.

There's also a troll who won't shut up about Northeastern

Again, it’s either the international kids ( mostly Chinese) or sports recruits going to these top colleges. The kid going to Princeton is a Lacrosse recruit.

Most “ Unhooked” kids are going to OK colleges, but I’d think that’s the case with most high schools not just Prep.

Prep is being seriously shady with this because they conveniently don't mention that the Boston College and Princeton admits are athletic recruits.

Every other school does mention this on their student college Instagram accounts. Prep wants you to think that these kids got in on academics and not their skill with the lacrosse stick.

Are these guys considered international or domestic citizens? also if they live in another country but have american citizenship, that’s a huge plus for geographic diversity. basically as much of a hook as someone from wyoming.

So the top universities are looking for Chinese citizens for the sake of diversity?

Even if the Chinese students are getting the same excellent grades as the white students, their achievement is even more impressive given that they are doing it all in their SECOND language in a culturally foreign setting. That's gotta be a plus for admissions committees.
