I have had pits. So have my parents and friends. Not one has bitten or attacked. But I have been bitten by a poodle on the face. I nearly escaped being mauled by a dalmation. And I've known at least 2 boxers who have bitten people.

Re: the bold -- you did not read the article, did you? The family is an American family in Louisiana. The article is from a UK publication, but "this" was not "in the UK." It undermines your credibility when you base even some of your criticism on your lack of knowledge about the example OP is giving.

Oh, but please don't confuse this story with another one out of Louisiana: In January, a "mixed breed" dog (identifed later as a pit bull terrier mix) killed a seven-year-old girl. Not even her family's pet; it was a neighbor's uncontrolled dog that came into the yard where the girl was.

Why, yes, I did "go searching for these stories" because some of us don't want to bury our heads in the sand and pretend that "pitties" are just misunderstood.

I just posted Helene Jackson’s death by pit bull, but here’s another story, one that happened in February of this year. It wasn’t widely reported at the time or anything, but a family pit bull gnawed off five fingers (from both hands) this February. Someone has made a google map featuring every reported pit bull attack in 2023 breaking it down by animal and human fatality. Have a gander and ask yourself, if any dog can go bad, why does only this set of breeds go bad so often and so horribly? The mother in this story looks like she abused drugs so I am guessing that she didn't feed the poor dog. So, the baby and the dog were really neglected but, you are only blaming the dog.

Yes, but if the mother had had a miniature poodle and not fed it, the baby would still be alive. So I think it's fairly logical to blame the dog...

Anyone over the age of 21 who has a pit bull that kills them deserves it. Anyone who owns a pit bull that kills or harms anyone else deserves the death penalty or life in prison.
