Of course. This is annual thread from folks who don't understand that schools accept more people than they have spots and those who wishfully believe that a kid turning down School X means they'll get off the waiting pool.

Bump!!!

I know two kids declining Sidwell for 9th; two declining STA. All going to top 5 boarding schools.

It will be interesting to see how well they predicted their yields. They probably have these declines built into their estimates but time will tell.

I don’t know if I could ever send my children totally boarding school regardless of how good it is even if it was 100% free. No judgments I get the benefits it’s just not for me in particular.

Are you full pay or did you apply for FA? I'm curious as to how the FA packages compare b/w these two schools, as SSSAS seems to offer a lot more FA.

Was SSSAS difficult to get into this year?

As someone whose kid got in for 9th, I don’t know how to answer this. At least six 8th graders from our k-8 got in and at least one did not (but that child has a rocky discipline record). Otoh, our k-8 has a very good relationship with SSSAS and usually sends multiple kids every year. But we were also told that the number of applications were up, at least for 9th, so we didn’t know what to expect before decision day.

What school is SA?

Not a school. It means sexual assault.

Did you choose a Cathedral School because of the subtle religious/faith element?

Our k-8 had 6 admits that I know of and 3 rejections, the admits were significantly lower than last year. 2 of the rejections were very surprising, I would have put money on those 2 particular kids getting in. We were told by the school that current 9th grade was bigger than anticipated and they didn't want to repeat that, so they extended less admittances for this new rising 9th grade class.

I totally agree. We only get 18 years with them before they are off for the most part, why rush it.
