It sounds like he’s actually lived in DC for a while: https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/02/02/potomac-avenue-metro-shooting-suspect/ |

This may have already been noted but in in his follow up tweets Charles Allen actually used the word "police" which indicates to me he got a LOT of blowback for his initial message focusing on the killer as a person in crisis.

This story is so sad on so many levels. Like with many other shootings, there were a lot of missed opportunities. He was arrested for vandalizing plants in a hotel lobby -- clearly mentally deranged -- but just let go with an order to return in April for a hearing. His therapist called the police to ask for a welfare check (and therapists almost never call the police, so you know it must have been bad) -- the police walked around the house, didn't see anyone, so did nothing further., didn't return, didn't send a social worker to check on him, nothing. Did anyone put a red flag on him for gun purchases? Where did he get the gun he had? Legally purchased? I have said this many many times, but it is astounding to me that someone can make an anonymous report to CPS that you might be mistreating your kids, and there will be social workers inspecting your house, interviewing your family, and they may take away tour kids for 72 hours until you get a due process hearing. But someoen says "Hey, this guy seems like he might be violent and crazy, and he probably shouldn't have access to a gun" and no one even interviews the guy, much less takes away their guns. You have a constitutional right to your kids -- why is the constitutional right to guns entitled to so much more deference? |
Yup. Looks like the instigating factor here wasn’t guns at all but drug abuse. For all the liberals who promote decriminalization of drugs, this is the predictable result. Drug induced psychosis leading to eruptions of violence. |
What? Getting criminals off the street serves “no purpose” if there are still guns. How is that? The guns will either be in the hands of non-criminals, or they’ll be lying where the arrested criminals dropped them. Guns are inanimate objects. They don’t do things on their own, including possessing people and turning them into raving, lunatic murderers. |
People aren't ready to look at the reality of "harmless" drugs. |
Yep. I know this is veering off topic but I listened to a high school administrator this week express great frustration at the severe adverse effect decriminalization of marijuana has had on high schoolers and how there are virtually no treatment programs to help HS kids who aren't full blown drug addicts but are really struggling with excessive marijuana use. |
There’s a Washington Post article about him. Apparently, he was pretty amazing. Sounds like some sort of mental health crisis. He was a competitive swimmer in HS. Got a scholarship to Auburn U and graduated with a degree in finance. Served in the Air National Guard. Moved to DC. Bought a half million dollar house. Had two cars and an IT job. Paid his taxes. Something happened after Christmas. Inside of his house went from well kept to graffitied. No car. No phone. Disheveled. Then this. He was arrested twice, one dropped and one resulting in a plea of guilty of possession with intent to sell methamphetamine. Some domestic issues with a girlfriend, which seem to have gone both ways - him to her and her to him. Unlike much of the speculation, seems like he was a really successful guy before serious mental illness set in. |
I've never once heard of anyone going on a psychotic shooting rampage after using legal, inspected, controlled and regulated cannabis. But don't let the facts get in your way. |
That you have not heard of it does not mean it has not happened and could not. Marijuana is, for a significant number of people, not a benign amusement. It has been linked to psychosis. |
This reads like satire and perfectly explains why we are where we are in this city. |
When mixed with other substances, sure. By itself most people just become more mellow and relaxed. The point of regulation would be that it is controlled to remain unadulterated and of known properties. |
This is not indicative of SMI, the timing is too short. It's much more clear that it was a drug issue. |
What happened is that the guy started using drugs and it turned him into a psycho. |
Have you also never heard of marijuana being laced with other drugs? |
