The inverse is equally true: refusing to adapt to shifting trends doesn’t mean you have “personal style “ or usually just means you’re stuck in a fashion rut and won’t update your wardrobe |

I think a major reason straight leg jeans took off is that they are more comfortable than skinny jeans. Like it started as a trend but then people were like “huh, these are a lot less constructing and it actually feels good not to have my lower half wrapped in thin, stretch denim. Straight leg jeans also are generally made with more substantial denim and thus last longer.
Similar to the shift for higher rises after the low rise mania of the early 00s. People thought they were unflattering at first until they realized that a higher rise meant no more muffin top and you had the option of actually tucking your shirt in or even just wearing a regular shirt without exposing your lower back. Sometimes trends are just the fashion trends industry trying to convince you to buy more crap. But I actually think the return to straight leg and higher rises (essentially a return to 90s style jeans) is more about rejecting impractical and uncomfortable trends (skin tight denim, low rise) than anything else. |
DP, but why are you so stuck on putting down people who you’ve decided are “refusing” to adapt to new trends? Or who don’t want to spend money on updating their wardrobes? That’s not a trivial thing; plenty of us are relatively short on time, don’t prioritize trends, and/or don’t want to shell out on cheap, trendy fast fashion. |
You keep misreading this. Nobody cares if that’s your situation. What’s annoying is when the reality is you don’t care about fashion or don’t want to update and then insist that makes you better than people who do calling by calling them “lemmings” who have no personal style. I think we could agree true style isn’t mindlessly following all trends OR never updating your wardrobe but a mix of trends with lasting standout pieces. |
Who has said that they’re better than people who update their clothing? You’re so defensive. |
Ma’am, there’s people like 2 pages back calling people who buy new trends lemmings! |
| I just didn't buy ankle length pants for winter. This fashion is crazy if you don't live in Florida. |
THIS. The PP is beyond annoying with her scolding of anyone who looks at a trend and decides it's not for them. She calls it "stuck in a fashion rut," whereas I call her a slave to trends. Bottom line - some trends are indeed flattering. Some or not. I go with whatever is flattering to ME and skip whatever is not. |
To the PP who posted these - thank you! They’re sold out on the Everlane website (other than size 5.5), but I found a pair in my size on Poshmark, very lightly used, for $50! I’m excited for them
