Winter is here - waving my white flag at straight leg jeans/pants

Anonymous
Are we all just supposed to let our pasty white ankles hang out of the ankle length straight leg jeans/pants and freeze? I tolerated it on the summer/fall when these pants looked cute with tank tops or light flannels, but now that it’s cold I’m breaking up with these pants until spring. Additionally, I find the straight leg jeans look unflattering with sweaters…just too much material and nothing is balanced out. Sticking with flares or skinnies with chunkier boots until further notice, unless someone has figured out the secret…

- Don’t get ankle length?
- Wear them with nice boots?

I don’t have “pasty white ankles” though, so I might not be a part of the we /our crew that you’re looking to for fashion advice.

All I wear is straight leg and sweaters. The sweaters have to hit either at the waist or just below it with a fitted hemline/band on the sweater.

I hate sweaters and you can pry my skinny jeans from my cold, dead hands.

Ankle length is the worst, do not buy.

Get a pair of Chelsea boots with a mid-height, slim shaft and knit insets:

You can also do like LL Bean-style hiking boots, combat boots, or high top sneakers. For me, the Chelsea boots are ideal because they are so versatile. I can wear mine with tights and skirts, tall socks under a midi dress or skirt, or with straight or wide leg pants.

I mean, that's the issue, right? You used to wear skinny jeans with boots or booties over the jeans, and now you can't because the hem of the jeans is too wide and hits at the wrong point. But now there are boot options that look good with straight and wide leg jeans.

I love straight-leg ankle length jeans/pants. For winter, I just get longer pairs, so they cover my ankles, or I wear booties that more or less cover the lower leg. I will never, ever go back to skinny jeans.

These are a good suggestion.

OP here. Thank you for noting this - by we/all I meant other individuals who have the misfortune of having pasty white ankles in the winter, making the straight leg ankle jeans an especially unfortunate trend. I did not intend for this to be a non-inclusive post - the “beauty” of this forum to me (no pun intended) is how inclusive it is!

This. Get a pair of mid-height booties that are fitted and wear your straight-leg jeans over the top.

NP. My ankles are sometimes ashy, but otherwise cafe au lait in the winter. I look much better in skinny jeans than straight leg. I enjoy them with everything from flats to boots. Straight leg and boots has never worked for me. Am I supposed to peg them?

Get a pair of spat legs for the winter. Sounds like a fit that might work for you.

I pull my socks up so they peek out between my boots and my jeans.
